PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Lance Armstrong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samual Powers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Powers is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Saved by the Bell. The key to victory for Lance Armstrong has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Lance Armstrong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Samual Powers!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Columbo Gatti and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Armstrong closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Powers actively working from the bottom here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Armstrong wants to stand up but Powers has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Powers has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Armstrong is working away from the top position though.
Powers is looking to improve his position.
Armstrong seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

It looks like Armstrong is going to stand back up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Powers throws a nice looking combination but Armstrong bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Powers shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Powers is going olschool here, as he tries to force Armstrong to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Armstrong shrugs it off.

Powers has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Armstrong has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Armstrong fails with the takedown

and Powers counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Powers wants to take a breather but Armstrong is having none of it.

Powers seems to be working for a kimura but Armstrong defends the submission attempt.
Armstrong pushes Powers off looking to stand but Powers dives back in and keeps control.

Powers is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Armstrong knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Powers is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Armstrong is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Armstrong is pushing Powers's head away, looking to escape. Powers manages to hold on to the position though.

Powers is looking to take a break and control but Armstrong is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Powers thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Armstrong sneaks out the side door and pushes Powers away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Powers drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Samual Powers showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Powers content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Samual Powers comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Powers has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
