Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luther Jones! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Arvanitis! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Gwen Towbar and Stewart Dunkirk.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Arvanitis takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it. Arvanitis looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Jones is fending him off so far but Arvanitis persists. Nope, Jones circles away and we're back to standing. Arvanitis decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Arvanitis is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Jones sees it coming and defends easily. Arvanitis is looking for a kimura but Jones is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Arvanitis to get the leverage. Arvanitis looks gassed! Jones trying to hold on to Arvanitis's head to control him but Arvanitis postures up.
Arvanitis is working for a kimura but Jones is defending it quite comfortably.
Arvanitis stops Jones from getting back to his feet.
Arvanitis is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but Jones still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, Jones has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work! Arvanitis is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones wants to stand but Arvanitis is controlling his arm. Arvanitis is not content to let Jones control the position. Jones is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Arvanitis is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Arvanitis slips a jab and a cross from Jones.
Jones lands a left and a right that send Arvanitis crashing to the mat, dazed. Jones thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Arvanitis is rocked!
It looks like Jim Arvanitis has been cut.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Jones darts in and lands a big hook, right on the button! Arvanitis's legs crumble underneath him as he falls to the canvas! The ref tackles Jones before he gets to land any more shots to his stricken foe.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:06 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Luther Jones!
