PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hank Henry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Spat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jack Spat!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Aleksandr Martynov and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Henry lands a really nice looking cross but Spat seems unphased.
Henry cracks Spat with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.


It looks like Jack Spat has been cut.
Henry circles away from the clinch attempt.
Spat misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Spat can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Henry is looking to escape.
Spat has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Spat has hold of Henry's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Henry manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Spat is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Henry has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Henry!

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Spat is on top in guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Spat wants to control from the top but Henry keeps moving.
Spat wants to stand and escape but instead Henry has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Spat looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Henry tries to free his leg and advance position but Spat is retaining full guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Spat is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Henry is trying to stand up here but Spat is controlling him well.

Spat wants to work for an arm triangle but Henry is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Spat thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Henry's head.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Henry lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Spat doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Henry counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Spat thinking.
Hank Henry is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Henry bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Spat's head.
Henry will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Spat takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Jack Spat showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Henry goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

Henry closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Spat slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Henry postures up in Spat's guard and throws a big left but Spat blocks it.

Spat cracks Henry with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
You get the feeling that Henry really doesn't like being in this position too much.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Jack Spat.
I think Spat has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
