PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jason Savage (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Dalton (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Savage's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, "Killing In the Name Of" by Rage Against the Machine. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Savage throws a body kick that misses.
Savage moves in looking to clinch but Dalton pushes him off.
Dalton goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Savage darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Dalton blocking the ground and pound attempt from Savage.

Savage is looking for a kimura but Dalton is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Savage to get the leverage.
Savage stops Dalton from getting back to his feet.
Dalton is looking to control Savage's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dalton avoid being mounted?
Dalton misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Savage has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Dalton is trying to get back to full guard.
Dalton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Savage. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Dalton looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Savage is fending him off so far but Dalton persists. Nope, Savage circles away and we're back to standing.

Savage is keen to just control but Dalton is a slippery customer.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Dalton is on top in guard.

Dalton avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Savage bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Dalton's guard.

Dalton darts in and clinches Savage up against the cage.

and Dalton counters with a leg kick.
Savage tries to land a front kick but Dalton steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
John Dalton seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Savage closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Dalton wants to get back to his feet but Savage drags him back down.
Check out the look on Savage's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

The fight stays on the outside here - Dalton looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Savage is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Dalton is just riding it out for now. Savage eventually gives up the hold.
Savage uses his free foot to push down on Dalton's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Dalton.

Savage takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Savage won't let Dalton get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Savage is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Dalton can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
