Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Phil Ippines (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jiraia Merchury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ippines comes to the cage accompanied by Nanerpus. Jiraia Merchury is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Phil Ippines! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 3 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jiraia Merchury! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Chris Downing and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by Merchury or perhaps it was just good defense by Ippines which made him look bad. Ippines misses with a double jab.
Ippines misses with a few strikes there.
Ippines will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Ippines throws a series of punches but Merchury avoids them all with ease. Merchury circles away from the clinch attempt.

Merchury shoots in for a double leg but Ippines sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Ippines swinging wilding here.
Merchury shoots in but no luck this time. Phil Ippines has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jiraia Merchury. Merchury throws a leg kick but Ippines sees it coming and checks it nicely. A combination from Ippines does no damage. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Ippines gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Merchury to score an easy takedown into full guard. Merchury looks gassed! Ippines is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Ippines holds on and takes a little breather.
That's one minute gone in the round. Merchury stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ippines swivels though and keeps the full guard. Ippines seems keen to control Merchury's posture. Merchury won't allow Ippines to get back to his feet. Merchury is fighting to break Ippines's control of his arms but Ippines is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Ippines tries to land a sweep but no joy. Ippines has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Merchury has passed into side control.
Ippines knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Merchury on the ground. Ippines is trying to improve his position. Ippines is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Merchury asserts his dominance and retains side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ippines tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Merchury fails with an attempt to clinch.
Ippines looks to land a combination but Merchury avoids it well. Ippines tries to bum rush Merchury with a series of wild strikes but Merchury uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Ippines fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Ippines digs a good hook to Merchury's body.
Merchury closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Merchury lands in his opponent's guard. Merchury postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Ippines keeping moving, preventing Merchury from controlling successfully. Merchury with a flurry of punches that miss. Ippines managing to control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Merchury stops Ippines from standing up. Ippines looking to sweep here. No luck so far. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ippines controlling Merchury's posture. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Ippines uses the cage to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Phil Ippines will probably get the nod. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Merchury. Ippines pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Nice takedown defense from Ippines. No joy for Merchury on that attempt. Ippines throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Ippines swinging wilding here.
Ippines jabs Merchury right on the nose. Merchury blinks but takes it well. Ippines drops Merchury with a beautiful combination! Merchury stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Ippines is looking for the KO!
Merchury is rocked!
It looks like Jiraia Merchury has been cut. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Merchury is wiping some vaseline out of his eye. Ippines doesn't give a rats ass about fair play and cracks him with a massive hook to the side of the head! Merchury crumples to the floor out cold! The cornerman is going to be in Merchury's bad books for that mishap!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:42 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Phil Ippines!
