PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shigeyoshi Yoshida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hammer Nao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nao has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Hammer Nao enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shigeyoshi Yoshida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Hammer Nao!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Ren Mimura and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Yoshida lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Nao has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Nao and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
Nao looks gassed!

Yoshida moves into the clinch successfully.

Yoshida breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Yoshida misses with a double jab.
Nao showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Yoshida.
Yoshida closes the distance and clinches up with Nao, looking for a takedown. Yoshida pushes Nao against the cage but Nao circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Yoshida shoots in for a takedown but Nao shows good takedown defense.
Nao fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Yoshida throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Yoshida lands with a nice combination. Nao backs away looking to recover.

Shigeyoshi Yoshida seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Yoshida has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Nao clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Nao is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.
Yoshida really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Nao.

Yoshida has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Shigeyoshi Yoshida just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Nao avoids a kick to the body.

Yoshida throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Nao.
Yoshida fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Yoshida throws a series of punches but Nao avoids them all with ease.

Yoshida throws a right and a left that both miss.
Nao digs a good body shot into Yoshida's ribs.
Nao slips a jab and a cross from Yoshida.
Yoshida looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shigeyoshi Yoshida. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Yoshida throws a leg kick but Nao sees it coming and checks it nicely.

and Nao counters with a single leg into guard. Yoshida didn't expect that.

Yoshida wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Yoshida manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Nao manages to get himself to full guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Yoshida counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Yoshida.

Yoshida is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Yoshida's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Yoshida is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.

Yoshida seems keen to control Nao's posture.
Nao is breathing heavily.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Shigeyoshi Yoshida just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Yoshida loads up on a big right hand but Nao slips the punch.
Yoshida throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Yoshida is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Nao's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Nao's back!

Yoshida is staying calm and holding on to the back position, whilst working on a rear naked choke. Nao is defending well though. Yoshida let's go of the attempt for now.

Yoshida seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nao for as long as he can get away with.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Yoshida manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Yoshida will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Nao takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Yoshida is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Yoshida cracks Nao with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Nao is working to get back to half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Yoshida takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Yoshida moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Nao has worked his arm free - good work by Nao!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
