PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chris Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mario Rodriguez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Mario Rodriguez told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chris Cannon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mario Rodriguez!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Yuuki Gou and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rodriguez looks for a takedown but Cannon sprawls well.
Rodriguez looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Cannon fails with the takedown

and Rodriguez moves into the clinch.
Rodriguez trying to land knees to the body.
Cannon jumps guard but Rodriguez stands there with Cannon around his waist. Cannon gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Cannon gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Cannon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cannon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Rodriguez can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Cannon controls the pace.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Cannon is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Rodriguez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Cannon passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Cannon thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Cannon creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Check out the look on Cannon's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Cannon connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Rodriguez some visible discomfort.

Cannon tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Rodriguez struggling a bit here.
Rodriguez is not content to let Cannon control the position.
Cannon is putting a hurting on Rodriguez here, landing some big shots from side control.

Cannon wants to control but Rodriguez is keeping him busy.
Cannon lands a nice forearm strike.

Cannon is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Rodriguez knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Cannon is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Rodriguez is trying to escape and Cannon transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Rodriguez is forced to tap! Nice work there by Cannon! Very nice indeed!
