The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Starr avoids a punch combination nicely.
Sanchez tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Starr was well out of range. Poor timing from Sanchez. Sanchez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Starr is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Sanchez's half guard. Sanchez tries to roll over but Starr keeps him under control. Sanchez is working hard here to advance position. Starr looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Starr prevents Sanchez from improving his position. Sanchez tries to kick Starr off but Starr keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sanchez wants to get back to full guard but Starr has passed into side control. Starr sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sanchez's guard. Starr is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Sanchez has managed to free his arm - good work. Sanchez makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sanchez. Starr passes into half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sanchez is looking for a sweep. Starr is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Sanchez is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Starr pulls his head out easily. Sanchez is breathing heavily. Starr is trying to control the action in half guard but Sanchez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Sanchez slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work. Sanchez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Starr doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Starr manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Starr is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Starr wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving.
That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Sanchez wants to sweep here but Starr controlling him for the moment. Starr wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving. Starr wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sanchez, who protects the arm well. Starr remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sanchez throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Starr was covering up waiting for the punch and Sanchez finishes the takedown easily into guard. Starr looking for a sweep. Not yet Starr, not yet. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Starr keeping full guard, as Sanchez tries to pass. Sanchez postures up in Starr's guard and throws a big left but Starr blocks it. Starr looking for a guillotine here but Sanchez defends easily.

That's one minute gone in the round. Sanchez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Sanchez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Sanchez postures up.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Starr slips a jab from Sanchez. Starr rushes Sanchez and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Starr decides to pull guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Starr holds on and takes a little breather. Sanchez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Sanchez working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Sanchez is looking to work some ground and pound but Starr has wrist control. Starr avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Sanchez is pushing down on Starr's leg trying to pass to half guard. Starr is fighting to maintain full guard but Sanchez has managed to sneak the leg through. Starr is pressing down on Sanchez's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Sanchez won't allow Starr to sweep him here. Sanchez advances to half guard. Sanchez works his way into full mount! Sanchez goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Starr is on top in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sanchez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Starr drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Starr as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Sanchez screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Starr! Nice submission victory there!
