Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Mir (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shogun Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shogun Rua has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Frank Mir! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Shogun Rua! The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rua tries for a takedown but Mir sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Rua shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Mir blocks a head kick by Rua.
Rua shoots for a double leg takedown but Mir sprawls well. He's pushed Rua's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Frank Mir has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shogun Rua. Mir shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Rua keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Rua looking for submissions from an awkward position here. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mir lands a nice short elbow. Rua is trying to get back to full guard. Rua avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Mir.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mir wants to advance to full mount but Rua doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead. Mir throws and elbow that misses. Rua uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mir's guard. Nice move by Rua! Mir controlling Rua's posture. Mir pushes Rua off and scrambles back to his feet.
Rua tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Rua looks gassed! Rua tries for a takedown but Mir circles away easily so Mir counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mir is working Rua over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Rua not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Mir decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Rua takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Mir moves into the clinch. Mir goes for a takedown in the clinch but Rua prevents it.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Rua takes an elbow to the temple. Mir content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Rua wants to get back to striking at distance but Mir won't allow it.
Mir jumps guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rua has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Mir is proving hard to escape from. Mir controlling the position. Mir has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Rua off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds. Mir drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Mir is looking to stand up but Rua won't let him. Mir passes Rua's left leg - he's now in half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mir passes to side control. Mir stands up. Rua drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Mir thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Rua is looking to stand up but Mir won't let him. Mir pushes Rua off and scrambles back to his feet.
Mir closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Mir lands in his opponent's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Frank Mir dominated that round. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Rua gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Mir counters by clinching up. Rua is trying to drag Mir to the mat but Mir just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. Mir pulls guard. Rua wants to stand and escape but instead Mir has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Mir lands a couple of digs. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Mir passes into half guard. Mir working Rua over with strikes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mir is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Mir decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up. Mir has his takedown stuffed and Rua counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Mir's guard now. Frank Mir overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Mir is looking to stand back up but Rua counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Mir. Rua escapes and gets back to his feet. Rua misses with a takedown and Mir counters with a shoot takedown. Rua fights it but they end up in guard. Frank Mir has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shogun Rua.
That's two minutes gone in the round. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mir tries to free his leg and advance position but Rua is retaining full guard. Mir would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Mir with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Mir throws and elbow that misses. Rua uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Mir's guard. Nice move by Rua! Mir pushes Rua off and scrambles back to his feet.
Rua fails to land with a series of punches.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mir changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Rua looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Rua manages to get back to half guard. Mir wants to pass to mount but Rua is defending the position. Rua is pressing down on Mir's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it. Rua is trying to control the position but Mir postures up. Mir stands and throws Rua's legs to the side, diving into side control. Mir prevents Rua from escaping the position. Mir decides to stand back up. Mir steps back and let's Rua get back to his feet.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Rua throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Rua closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Mir did well to prevent Rua getting side control. Mir manages to escape and get back to his feet! Rua feints and as Mir raises his hands in defense, Rua changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Rua prevents Mir from getting back to his feet. Mir looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mir is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close second round but I would say that Frank Mir will probably get the nod. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Rua fails with the takedown and Mir holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Mir gets a nice trip takedown into half guard. Rua throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Both fighters are breathing heavily. Rua pushes Mir off looking to stand but Mir dives back in and keeps control.
Rua throws some strikes from the bottom but Mir isn't bothered - he's working on a kimura... it looks tight... it is! Rua is tapping and screaming like a little girl! Ouch, that looks painful! Good win for Mir!
