Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mark Byrd! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Branden Jones! The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, George Francis and Frank Dennis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Byrd looks to land a combination but Jones avoids it well. Jones is trying hard to land a takedown here. Byrd sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Byrd with a lazy takedown attempt and Jones counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Byrd! Jones looking to control and managing it successfully. Byrd is trying to escape the mount.
Jones tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Byrd tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Jones controlling from mount. Jones is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet! Jones lands a right hook to the body.
Byrd avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Byrd pushes Jones up against the cage in a clinch. Jones missing with knees to the body.
Jones keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Byrd's efforts to push away. Jones is working Byrd over against the cage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jones is struggling to control the position. Byrd wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Branden Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Byrd doesn't succeed with the takedown and Jones counters with a lovely straight right hand! Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away. Jones controlling from the full mount. Byrd is breathing heavily. Jones jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Byrd is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Byrd and Jones has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
That's three minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here as Jones stalls from top position. Jones working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter. Jones wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Byrd, who protects the arm well.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Jones in side control lands a decent elbow. Jones controlling the position from side mount. Jones cracks Byrd with an elbow. That is naaassty. Jones wants to lay and pray for a moment but Byrd keeps working. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Branden Jones dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Byrd stuffs the takedown attempt from Jones. Jones gets slowly back to his feet. Jones with a poor takedown and Byrd counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Jones has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Byrd is working away from the top position though. Byrd throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Byrd prevents Jones from improving his position. Jones keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Jones tries to get to full guard but Byrd has control of the leg. Jones is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Byrd is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Jones tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Jones tries to clinch and Byrd counters with a lovely straight right hand! Byrd fails in his attempt to clinch. Jones tries to clinch up. Byrd wants to clinch and Jones counters with a single leg into guard. Byrd didn't expect that.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Byrd avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Byrd trying to keep a closed guard but Jones is proving a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Jones postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Byrd is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Jones, into his guard. Jones looking to hit a scissor sweep but Byrd is one step ahead there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Jones scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Byrd has his takedown stuffed and Jones counters with a takedown into side control. Jones taking a breather here. Jones stands up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones shoots in and bounces Byrd off the cage to secure the takedown into guard. Jones advances to half guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Jones is keen to just control but Byrd is a slippery customer. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Branden Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's time! Back to the action! And we move into the final round!
Jones wants to clinch but Byrd slips to the side and Byrd counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Branden Jones has got the better of the ground game so far. Jones wants to improve his position but Byrd is controlling well.
Jones is refusing to be controlled, as Byrd sits in half guard. Jones wants to get back to his feet.
Byrd is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Byrd eventually gives up the hold. Jones gets back to full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jones is on top in guard.
Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Jones wants to control from the top but Byrd keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Byrd keeping full guard, as Jones tries to pass. Jones is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Jones trying to control the position from guard on top but Byrd is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Jones wanted to stand there but Byrd had control of the position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jones trying to control but Byrd is working from the bottom.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Jones darts in and clinches Byrd up against the cage. Jones has Byrd pressed against the cage, preventing Byrd from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Jones lands a nice elbow. Jones lands a right hand. Jones breaks the clinch.
Byrd misses with a takedown and Jones counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Jones moves into full mount! Byrd won't be happy about that! Byrd takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Mark Byrd has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Jones has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Byrd's face.

And that's the end of the fight! Branden Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I've got Jones winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
