The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Silva has Emelianenko up against the cage in a clinch.
Silva using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Emelianenko has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.

Silva lands a left and a right that send Emelianenko crashing to the mat, dazed. Silva thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!

Silva lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Silva.

Emelianenko feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Emelianenko shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silva but Silva pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Emelianenko creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Silva really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Emelianenko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Silva should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.

Emelianenko is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Silva pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Andrei Emelianenko's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
