Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chris Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Perry (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Perry has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chris Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Perry!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Perry misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Gracie.

Gracie gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Perry to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Perry is pushing down on Gracie's leg trying to pass to half guard. Gracie is fighting to maintain full guard but Perry has managed to sneak the leg through.

Perry is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Gracie is just riding it out for now. Perry eventually gives up the hold.
Perry prevents Gracie from standing back up.

Perry is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Perry is looking for a kimura here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Perry wants to work for an arm triangle but Gracie is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Gracie stuffs the takedown.

Gracie feints and as Perry raises his hands in defense, Gracie changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gracie connects with a couple of short punches.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gracie with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Perry wants to stand and escape but Gracie is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Perry is looking for a triangle but Gracie pushes his legs off easily.

Perry has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Gracie can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Perry can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gracie is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Perry is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Perry takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Perry tries to improve position but can't.
Gracie is putting a hurting on Perry here, landing some big shots from side control.

Gracie avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Perry with a lazy takedown attempt

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Gracie got a little sloppy there for a moment and Perry has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Gracie has managed to get both his arms back between Perry's legs - danger averted.
Gracie stands and throws Perry's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Gracie connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Perry some visible discomfort.

Gracie cracks Perry with a big right hand but Perry just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Perry sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Gracie connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Perry some visible discomfort.
Gracie postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Perry trying to remain calm as Gracie controls from the top position.
Perry pushes Gracie away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Gracie gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Gracie tries to score with some ground and pound. Perry controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Perry is trying to buck Gracie off.
Gracie looks up at the clock and then as Perry takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Gracie smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Gracie is looking to take a break and control but Perry is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Gracie is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Perry is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. And we move into the final round!


Gracie avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
No luck for Gracie with that takedown attempt.
Perry lands a jab.
Perry shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

so Gracie counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Gracie pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Perry is keeping the position for now.
Gracie passes Perry's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gracie thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Perry's head.
Gracie tries to pass to full mount but Perry defends it.
Gracie not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Perry blocking the ground and pound attempt from Gracie.
Perry has hold of Gracie's hands but Gracie slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Perry moves into full guard.

Gracie keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Perry's head.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Gracie tries to free his leg and advance position but Perry is retaining full guard.

Perry is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Gracie defends well.
Gracie slips nicely into half guard.
Gracie controlling the action here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gracie is trying to control. Perry wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Nice strikes from Gracie there.
Gracie trying to mount his opponent but Perry defends it.
Perry moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Gracie is looking to work some ground and pound but Perry has wrist control.
John Perry has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Perry is trying to control the position but Gracie postures up.
Gracie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gracie passes Perry's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Gracie winds up and cracks Perry with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Chris Gracie is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gracie connects with a nice short shot to Perry's temple.
Perry wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy.
Gracie is keen to just control but Perry is a slippery customer.
Gracie passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Perry!

And that's the end of the fight!
Chris Gracie showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gracie, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
