The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Smyth lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Williams shoots in and drives through. Smyth sprawls well.

Williams closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Williams is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Smyth knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Williams looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Smyth really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Williams. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Williams decides to stand back up. Williams steps back and let's Smyth get back to his feet.

Williams misses with a takedown
and Smyth counters with a big head kick but Williams shrugs it off.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Williams is defended easily by Smyth.
Williams gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Smyth makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Williams is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Smyth's half guard.

Williams is looking for a kimura but Smyth is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Williams to get the leverage.

Smyth tries to kick Williams off but Williams keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Williams wants to control but Smyth is keeping him busy.
Smyth blocking the ground and pound attempt from Williams.
Rex Williams overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Smyth pushes Williams off looking to stand but Williams dives back in and keeps control.

Smyth misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Smyth keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Williams closes this distance looking for a takedown but Smyth circles away.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Rex Williams.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Williams, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
