PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jr Seau (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Robert Stubbs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stubbs has chosen I Am The Walrus by The Beatles as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jr Seau!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Robert Stubbs!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Edson Gomes and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Seau walks into a jab.
Seau looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Stubbs fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Stubbs swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Seau throws a leg kick which misses Stubbs's front leg but catches the back leg as Stubbs tries to avoid it.
Stubbs misses with a wild body shot.
Stubbs misses with a jab, cross combination.
Stubbs misses the jab.
Seau avoids the body shot from Stubbs.
Stubbs throws a hook to the side of Seau's head but Seau sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Stubbs throws a right hand that Seau ducks under and follows up with a left that Seau also avoids with ease.
Seau steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Stubbs.
A low kick from Stubbs is predictable there

and Seau counters with a nice double leg into side control. Stubbs won't be happy with that.
Seau advances to mount.
Seau takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Seau's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Seau has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Stubbs trying desperately to get to his feet.
Stubbs is trying desperately to improve position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Seau unloading with bombs!
Seau looking to finish Stubbs with some ground and pound. This is bad for Stubbs!
Seau tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Seau lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Seau controlling the pace for now.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jr Seau just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Stubbs stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Seau.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

and Seau counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Stubbs wants to get back to full guard but Seau has mounted him!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Seau looking to control and managing it successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Stubbs shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Seau throws a series of punches but Stubbs avoids them all with ease.
Stubbs misses with a combination

and Seau counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Seau sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Seau wants to control from the top but Stubbs keeps moving.
Seau preventing the sweep.
Stubbs working a defensive guard but Seau passes into half guard.
Seau has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Seau is going olschool here, as he tries to force Stubbs to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Stubbs shrugs it off.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Stubbs tries to lock up and control but Seau gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Seau controlling the position easily from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Jr Seau just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Seau closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Stubbs to the mat! Stubbs manages to get full guard.
Seau controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Seau throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Stubbs works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Stubbs preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Seau pushing down on Stubbs's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Seau passes to full mount!
Seau looking to control and managing it successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jr Seau dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Stubbs tries to keep at a distance but Seau has taken the fight into the clinch.
Stubbs letting Seau take a breather here.
Seau using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Stubbs has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Seau tries to pull guard but Stubbs holds him up against the cage and eventually Seau drops back down to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Seau misses with an elbow over the top.
Seau tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Stubbs smiles and moves away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stubbs defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Seau.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jr Seau. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Stubbs misses with a combination

and Seau counters with a takedown into side control.
Seau wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stubbs keeps working.
Seau moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Seau trying to control the action but Stubbs is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The ground and pound from Seau seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Seau stands up.

Seau gets a takedown into half guard.
Stubbs is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Seau jumps into side control!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Seau looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stubbs seems a little lost for a moment, as Seau dominates the positioning.
Seau has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Stubbs!
Seau looking to control and managing it successfully.
Seau has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Stubbs's face.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Seau with shots to the head and body - Stubbs looks very uncomfortable down there.

Jr Seau overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Stubbs is trying desperately to improve position.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jr Seau showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Seau, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
