Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bonza Banks (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ben Howell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Bonza Banks!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ben Howell!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Hugh Johnson and Skip Squint.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howell misses with a low kick.
Banks leaves Howell with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Banks swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Banks throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Banks connects with a body shot.
Nice defenses there by Howell.
A shot to de liver by Banks. Beautiful body shot.
Howell tries for a takedown but Banks sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Banks tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Howell was well out of range. Poor timing from Banks.
Banks takes a swing at Howell's ribcage but misses.
Howell defending well as Banks loads up on a big left hand.
Banks swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Howell.
Banks scores with the left hand. Howell knows he should have avoided that one.
Howell walks into a stiff left hand from Banks.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Howell keeps the fight on the outside.
Banks comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Banks misses with a body kick.
Banks has a takedown stuffed.
Banks misses with the combination.

Nice shot by Banks.
Horrible takedown by Banks or perhaps it was just good defense by Howell which made him look bad.
Howell tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Banks was well out of range. Poor timing from Howell.
Howell throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Banks's waist but Banks gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Howell off to one side.
Bonza Banks has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ben Howell.
Banks will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
Banks connects with a jab.
Howell checks a low kick from Banks.
Banks scores with a body shot.
Howell walks into a stiff left hand from Banks.


It looks like Ben Howell has been cut.
Howell looks gassed!
Banks thows a body shot but no joy.
Banks throws an overhand right that lands on Howell's shoulder, as Howell tries to avoid the shot.

Howell takes the fight into the clinch.
Howell is trying desperately to land a takedown but Banks is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for Howell.
Howell wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Howell tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Banks just stands there and leans against the cage.
Banks using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Howell has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Banks stalling in the clinch.

Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Banks misses with some punches.
Banks misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Howell fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Howell pulls guard effortlessly.
Banks is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Banks stopping the sweep attempt from Howell.
Howell can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Banks controls the pace.

Howell working for a triangle but Banks defends it easily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Howell looking for a guillotine here but Banks defends easily.

Howell has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Banks can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Howell trying to keep a closed guard but Banks is proving a slippery customer.
Howell manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Banks really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Howell working for a submission but Banks is keeping him at bay.
Banks is looking to improve his position but Howell isn't that keen on the idea.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Howell is going olschool here, as he tries to force Banks to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Banks shrugs it off.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Banks is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bonza Banks dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Ben Howell's cut.
That's time! Back to the action!


Banks scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Horrible takedown by Howell or perhaps it was just good defense by Banks which made him look bad.
Bonza Banks seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Banks with a hook.
Banks throws a front kick aimed at Howell's knee but Howell avoids it well.
Banks throws a sloppy head kick and Howell moves out of range easily.
Banks misses with a body shot

and Howell counters with a single leg into guard. Banks didn't expect that.
Banks controlling the position.

Howell is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Banks on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Banks tries to get out of the position.
Banks is pulling down on Howell's head to control his posture.

Howell drops back looking for a leg! Banks is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Banks manages to kick Howell off! Howell jumps back into Banks's guard.
Howell is breathing heavily.
Banks has Howell pulled in close to control his posture.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Howell stands and throws Banks's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Banks is not content to let Howell control the position.
Banks knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Howell on the ground.
Banks is looking to regain half guard here but Howell keeps moving and retains side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
You can see the frustration on Banks's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Banks gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Banks is squirming around, avoiding Howell's attempts to control the action.
Banks wants to control but Howell is having none of it.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Howell is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Banks is forced to tap! Great finish!
