PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Janne Ahonen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seppo Suo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Janne Ahonen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Seppo Suo!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ahonen gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Ahonen is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Suo tries to stand but Ahonen is controlling from the bottom.

Ahonen had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Suo is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Ahonen Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Suo's back instead.
Suo rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Suo regains full guard. Nicely done.

Suo has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ahonen can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Ahonen slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Suo is trying to control Ahonen's posture but Ahonen avoids it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ahonen creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Suo sneaks back into half guard.
Suo is trying to stand up here but Ahonen is controlling him well.

Ahonen wants to pass to mount but Suo is defending the position.
Suo regains full guard. Nicely done.
Suo is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ahonen is not content to let Suo control the position.

Suo is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Suo wants to take a breather but Ahonen is having none of it.

Suo thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ahonen's head.
Ahonen is trying to maintain the position but Suo is very close to passing his half guard.
Suo wants to stand up but Ahonen has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Suo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

The referee warns Ahonen that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Ahonen is squirming around, avoiding Suo's attempts to control the action.

Suo is landing with some decent strikes but Ahonen is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Suo is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Ahonen has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Ahonen!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

so Ahonen counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Ahonen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Ahonen prevents Suo from getting back to his feet.
Suo is trying to control the position but Ahonen postures up.
Suo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Ahonen has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Ahonen drops back looking for a leg! Suo is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Suo manages to kick Ahonen off! Ahonen jumps back into Suo's guard.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Suo bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
