Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Benson Vertek! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, James Flipper! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Hugh Johnson and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Flipper ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Vertek is breathing heavily. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Flipper throws a right hand that Vertek ducks under and follows up with a left that Vertek also avoids with ease. Flipper throws a big overhand right that connects, sending Vertek tumbling to the canvas!
Vertek is rocked!
It looks like Benson Vertek has been cut. Vertek working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Flipper. Flipper trying to control but Vertek is working from the bottom. Flipper wanted to stand there but Vertek had control of the position. Vertek working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Flipper. Flipper trying to stand up but can't free himself from Vertek's guard. Flipper missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Vertek is working an open guard so Flipper takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Vertek tries to clinch but Flipper moves out of range. Vertek fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Flipper, pushing him back against the cage. Vertek drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Flipper gets underhooks to prevent Vertek's takedown attempt.
Vertek changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Flipper fights it off and pushes away nicely.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Benson Vertek. That's going to take a lot out of him. Flipper cracks Vertek with a hook to the temple - Vertek is on wobbly legs here! Flipper swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Vertek falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Flipper wins by TKO!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). James Flipper!
