The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A decent looking cross lands there for Tobin.
It looks like Max Detroit has been cut. Tobin throws a big shot that misses. Tobin scores with a crisp jab that stopped Detroit in his tracks. Tobin lands with an uppercut that bounces Detroit off the cage and back into rage. Tobin throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Detroit. Detroit dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Detroit looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Detroit missing with the ground and pound from half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Tobin pushes Detroit off looking to stand but Detroit dives back in and keeps control.
Tobin wants to improve his position but Detroit is controlling well.
Tobin is working hard here to advance position. Detroit has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Detroit missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Detroit slips a nice elbow through Tobin's hands, connecting with Tobin's forehead. Detroit thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Tobin wants to get back to full guard.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Detroit fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Tobin, pushing him back against the cage. Detroit scores with an uppercut up the middle. Detroit lands a knee to the body.

Detroit persists though and gets the takedown into guard. Tobin is breathing heavily. Detroit is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Detroit trying to control but Tobin is working from the bottom. Detroit pushing down on Tobin's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Tobin is looking to score with low kicks. James Tobin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Tobin misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Detroit looks to score with a jab to the body but Tobin is just out of range. Tobin fakes a jab and then connects with a hook. Detroit explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work. Nice takedown defense from Tobin. No joy for Detroit on that attempt. Tobin throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Tobin loads up on a big right hand but Detroit slips the punch. Detroit uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Tobin. Tobin bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Detroit's head. Detroit throws a right and a left that both miss. Detroit clinches up against the cage. Detroit blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Tobin wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Tobin is trying to force a seperation but Detroit has the dominant position. Detroit lands a right hand that snaps the head of Tobin backwards. Tobin stops a takedown attempt from Detroit.
Detroit is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Tobin pulls him back up using the underhooks. James Tobin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Max Detroit. Tobin is trying to break the clinch but Detroit has him pressed against the cage. Detroit breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Detroit will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Detroit moves out of range as Tobin strikes. Tobin lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

James Tobin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Detroit is looking to land body kicks. Tobin scores with a punch to the head. Tobin slips a jab and a cross from Detroit.
Detroit closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Tobin did well to prevent Detroit getting side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Tobin trying to hold on to Detroit's head to control him but Detroit postures up.
Tobin makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Tobin. Tobin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Tobin tries to get out of the position. Detroit in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Tobin looking to hit a scissor sweep but Detroit is one step ahead there. Detroit trying to control the position from guard on top but Tobin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Tobin is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Detroit is controlling him. Detroit trying to control but Tobin is working from the bottom.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Tobin thows a body shot but no joy. Tobin punishes Detroit's body with a nice straight punch. Detroit looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Detroit gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Tobin connects with a right hand. Detroit shakes it off. Tobin checks a low kick from Detroit. Tobin lands with a straight right. Detroit didn't see that one coming. Detroit moves into range and clinches up with Tobin. Tobin swings wildly with an uppercut but Detroit uses good head movement to avoid it. Tobin tries to break the clinch but Detroit is controlling the position. Tobin gets underhooks to prevent Detroit's takedown attempt.
Detroit drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Detroit blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Tobin looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. A short left from Detroit. Detroit changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Tobin fights it off and pushes away nicely.
A decent looking cross lands there for Tobin. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close round but Max Detroit will probably get the nod. The cut man is working on Max Detroit's cut. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

That has opened up Max Detroit's cut even more. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Tobin scores with a nice right hand.
Detroit is still on wobbly legs! Can Tobin finish him? Detroit moves his head to the side to avoid a jab but walks straight into a cross. Tobin misses with a looping right. Detroit keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Tobin. Detroit seems to have recovered his senses. Tobin tries to bum rush Detroit with a series of wild strikes but Detroit uses good footwork to avoid the assault. A big left from Tobin misses. Detroit moves out of range of the body kick. Detroit doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body. Tobin cracks Detroit with a good jab. Detroit lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Detroit is breathing heavily. Tobin takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Tobin lands a right hook to the body.
Tobin cracks Detroit with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.
The cut above Max Detroit's eye is starting to cause him problems now. Detroit has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye. Tobin lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Detroit circles away quickly and effectively. Tobin lands a two punch combo.
That's one minute gone in the round. Tobin moves into range and connects with a jab. Detroit on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot. Tobin pivots, looking for a leg kick but Detroit is out of range and Tobin settles back down. Detroit checks a low kick from Tobin. Detroit slips a jab and a cross from Tobin.

Tobin pivots, looking for a leg kick but Detroit is out of range and Tobin settles back down. Max Detroit is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Tobin fails to land with a series of punches.
Tobin punishes Detroit's body with a nice straight punch. Tobin lands a jab to Detroit's midsection. Tobin connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Detroit thows a body shot but no joy. Tobin moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination. Detroit on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Detroit is defended easily by Tobin. Tobin clobbers Detroit with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Max Detroit's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters. Tobin lands with an overhand left. Detroit shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.
The referee calls the doctor in to look at Max Detroit's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). James Tobin! James Tobin retains his welterweight title!
