Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Abe Rodgers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pen Island (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rodgers has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Island closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Island controlling from side mount. Let's hope that Island has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Island thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Rodgers is breathing heavily. Island wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Rodgers, who protects the arm well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Island tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Island takes a little break here. Rodgers wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Rodgers is trying to work for a sweep but Island has mounted him! Island scoring with strikes but Rodgers is staying in there. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Island controlling his opponent. Island lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Rodgers hang on?

Despite being in the dominant position, Pen Island just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Island throws a nice head kick!
Island fails in his attempt to clinch. Rodgers feints and as Island raises his hands in defense, Rodgers changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Island looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Island is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Island striking off his back but it's not causing Rodgers any problems.

Island controlling the position. Island lands a decent punch to the body there. Island is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Island has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Island is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a tringle but Rodgers frees his head nicely. Oh but Island has switched to an armbar! Rodgers is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
