PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Lyoto Machida (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruno Menezes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Machida has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Lyoto Machida!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bruno Menezes!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Emerson Jorge and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Menezes feints and as Machida raises his hands in defense, Menezes changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Machida looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Menezes stands and steps away. Machida gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Menezes looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Machida is fending him off so far but Menezes persists. Nope, Machida circles away and we're back to standing.

Menezes takes the fight into the clinch.

Menezes has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Machida regains guard immediately.
Menezes not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Let's hope that Menezes has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Machida tries to bench press Menezes off him but Menezes keeps the position.

Menezes will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Machida is looking to clinch but Menezes is avoiding it.
Menezes closes the distance and clinches up with Machida, looking for a takedown. Menezes pushes Machida against the cage but Machida circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Menezes fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Machida, pushing him back against the cage.
Menezes drops down looking for an ankle pick but Machida pulls his leg out and moves away.
Menezes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Menezes looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Menezes closes this distance looking for a takedown but Machida circles away.
Menezes needs to keep his hands up - Machida had a free shot at his head there.
Menezes fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Machida shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Menezes shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Menezes was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Menezes tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Machida smiles and moves away.
Machida stuffs the takedown attempt from Menezes. Menezes gets slowly back to his feet.

Bruno Menezes showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

I would just about give that final round to Bruno Menezes.
I've got Menezes winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
