Canmelianenko has chosen Emperor - The Loss And Curse Of Reverence as his entrance music. Rodef Canmelianenko is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Shalbek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Rodef Canmelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Valeri Chadov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Canmelianenko ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
No luck for Canmelianenko with that takedown attempt.
Canmelianenko fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Canmelianenko drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Shalbek wants to stand but Canmelianenko is controlling the position.

Canmelianenko is looking to work some ground and pound but Shalbek has wrist control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Canmelianenko wants to get up but he can't break Shalbek's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Canmelianenko postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Shalbek is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Canmelianenko, into his guard.

Shalbek wants to stand and escape but instead Canmelianenko has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Canmelianenko keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Shalbek's head.

Shalbek utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Canmelianenko throws a hook but Shalbek blocks it.
Vladimir Shalbek is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Canmelianenko throws a body kick that misses.
Canmelianenko closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shalbek circles away.
Vladimir Shalbek has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rodef Canmelianenko.
Shalbek digs a good hook to Canmelianenko's body.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Canmelianenko throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Shalbek leaves Canmelianenko with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Shalbek swats away the attempt to clinch by Canmelianenko.
Shalbek throws a right hand that Canmelianenko ducks under and follows up with a left that Canmelianenko also avoids with ease.

Canmelianenko closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Shalbek did well to prevent Canmelianenko getting side control.

Canmelianenko is looking for a kimura but Shalbek is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Canmelianenko to get the leverage.
Shalbek holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Canmelianenko thows a huge punch but Shalbek dodges it nicely.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Shalbek displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Canmelianenko.
Shalbek connects with a lovely jab that went straight through the gap between Canmelianenko's hands.


It looks like Rodef Canmelianenko has been cut.
Shalbek wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Canmelianenko is breathing heavily.
Canmelianenko swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Shalbek counters with a two punch combo.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Canmelianenko circles away from the clinch attempt.

Shalbek is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Canmelianenko throws a shot from downtown. Shalbek moves away and avoids it.

Shalbek lands with a right and another and another! Canmelianenko is in big trouble! Shalbek lands again and this time it's lights out for Canmelianenko! A quality knockout there for Shalbek.
