Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Smythe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Sharaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sharaz has chosen DJ Sharaz - Just Can't Wait as his entrance music. Jimmy Smythe has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jimmy Smythe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Tony Sharaz!
The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Steve Montenegro and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Sharaz as Smythe shoots in.
Smythe has a takedown stuffed.
Smythe throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Smythe keeps the fight on the outside.

Smythe drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sharaz takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Smythe throws an elbow but Sharaz slips to the side and avoids it well.
Sharaz wants to get back to his feet.
Sharaz tries to strike from the bottom but misses.
Sharaz is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Smythe connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Sharaz some visible discomfort.
Smythe works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
Smythe is looking to take a break and control but Sharaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Smythe scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Sharaz to see if he's OK.

Sharaz wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.
You can see the frustration on Sharaz's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Smythe really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sharaz tries to control but Smythe manages to take his back.
Smythe is trying to stick to Sharaz's back but Sharaz is turning into Smythe. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Smythe's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Sharaz.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Smythe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Smythe lands a two punch combo.


It looks like Tony Sharaz has been cut.
Smythe fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jimmy Smythe. That's going to take a lot out of him.

The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Smythe is in a horrible position here. Sharaz smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Smythe is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Sharaz goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Smythe is on top in guard.
Smythe prevents Sharaz from getting back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the ring so we can get back down to business.

Sharaz wants to stand up but Smythe is controlling him.
Smythe works over Sharaz with some ground and pound from guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Sharaz throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Smythe's waist but Smythe gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sharaz off to one side.
Smythe avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Smythe clobbers Sharaz with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Sharaz tries to close the distance and clinch but Smythe swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Sharaz is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Sharaz had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Smythe is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Sharaz Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Smythe's back instead.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Smythe makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Smythe has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Smythe drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Smythe jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Smythe keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Sharaz lands with a straight right. Smythe didn't see that one coming.
Sharaz misses with the combination.
Smythe dodges the punch combination from Sharaz.
Smythe fails with a takedown attempt.

Smythe closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sharaz did well to prevent Smythe getting side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jimmy Smythe.
I think Smythe has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
