The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lusk gets the takedown into side control. Lusk misses with the ground and pound. Lusk misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Bitnis is trying to control Lusk's posture but Lusk avoids it. Bitnis pushes Lusk away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Lusk gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control. Bitnis is trying to improve his position. You can see the frustration on Bitnis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Bitnis tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lusk wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Lusk looks to score with a jab to the body but Bitnis is just out of range. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. A leg kick checked by Bitnis. Lusk just misses with a punch to the body.

Lusk throws a quick inside leg kick. No luck for Lusk with that takedown attempt. Lusk tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Bitnis was well out of range. Poor timing from Lusk.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lusk fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bitnis manages to avoid it. Lusk tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bitnis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lusk somewhat. Lusk shoots in for a double leg but Bitnis sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. John Bitnis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jerry Lusk. Lusk blocks a jab. Lusk just misses with a punch to the body.
Bitnis throws out a leg kick but Lusk moves out of range and Bitnis only half commits. Bitnis throws a shot from downtown. Lusk moves away and avoids it. Bitnis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lusk was well out of range. Poor timing from Bitnis. Lusk cracks Bitnis with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd. Lusk fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Bitnis manages to avoid it. Bitnis takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Bitnis keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Bitnis drops his hands momentarily and Lusk takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. Lusk tries to score a power double leg takedown but Bitnis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Lusk somewhat. Lusk thows a body shot but no joy. Lusk is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Bitnis rather than just go for the knockout.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lusk fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Bitnis lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin. John Bitnis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Bitnis tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lusk was well out of range. Poor timing from Bitnis. Lusk throws a sloppy body shot
and Bitnis counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Bitnis misses with a looping right. Lusk tries to bum rush Bitnis with a series of wild strikes but Bitnis uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Lusk throws a body punch but Bitnis moves out of range. Good work by Bitnis as he checks the leg kick. Lusk fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Bitnis looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Lusk slips a jab from Bitnis. Lusk closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. You can see the frustration on Bitnis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Lusk lands a few punches from side control. Lusk tries to advance to mount but Bitnis instead regains half guard. Lusk throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Lusk trying to pass the guard but Bitnis defending well. Bitnis is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Lusk's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Lusk's back! Lusk defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
Lusk breaks Bitnis's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Lusk looking to pass the guard. Lusk lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Bitnis is trying to keep Lusk in close.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Lusk scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Bitnis trying to keep a closed guard but Lusk is proving a slippery customer.
Bitnis seems keen to control Lusk's posture. Lusk advances to half guard. Lusk is working for a submission of some sort.
Bitnis has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lusk is working away from the top position though. Lusk thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas. Lusk winds up and cracks Bitnis with a swinging punch to the side of the head. The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Lusk connects with a nice short shot to Bitnis's temple. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Jerry Lusk dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Lusk shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Bitnis is trying to defend but Lusk finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Bitnis is trying to maintain the position but Lusk is very close to passing his half guard. Bitnis tries to roll over but Lusk keeps him under control. Lusk lands with a punch from half guard. Lusk working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Lusk winds up and cracks Bitnis with a swinging punch to the side of the head. Lusk is thwarting Bitnis's attempts to control the position. Bitnis avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Lusk. Lusk seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Bitnis is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
