Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jay Steel!
The judges for this bout are Leandro Rodrigues, Luis Engracia and Edson Gomes.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice sprawl there from Johnson as Steel shoots in.
Johnson goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Johnson moves out of range as Steel throws a body kick.

Johnson moves into the clinch.
Steel prevents the takedown attempt.

Johnson pulls Steel into guard.
Steel passes Johnson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Steel wants to control but Johnson is keeping him busy.
Steel is thwarting Johnson's attempts to control the position.
Johnson wants to control the action here but instead Steel manages to pass to full mount!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Johnson is squirming around, avoiding Steel's attempts to control the action.

Steel is working for a guillotine from mount but Johnson frees his head quite easily.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Steel has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Johnson has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Johnson wants to escape the position but for the time being he's just trying to control the pace.

Jay Steel dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Johnson works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Steel wants to sweep here but Johnson controlling him for the moment.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Steel is on top in guard.

Steel is breathing heavily.
Johnson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Steel is one step ahead there.
Johnson wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Steel manages to pass to side control.

Steel is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Johnson wants to control but Steel is keeping busy.
Steel is trying to control. Johnson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Johnson tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Johnson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Johnson wants to control from the top but Steel keeps moving.
Johnson looking to sit in guard and control but Steel gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Johnson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Steel got a little sloppy there for a moment and Johnson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Steel has managed to get both his arms back between Johnson's legs - danger averted.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Steel tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Steel avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Johnson has taken the fight to the clinch.

Johnson pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Greg Johnson dominated that second round.
That's time! Johnson's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Steel wants to clinch but Johnson slips to the side
and Johnson counters with a head kick. That will keep Steel thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Johnson is trying to drag Steel to the mat but Steel just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

and Johnson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Johnson.

Steel can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Johnson controls the pace.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Steel manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Steel avoids the attempt from Johnson to control.
Steel can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Johnson is looking to escape.
Poor strikes thrown by Steel there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Steel is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Johnson is working to get back to half guard.
Johnson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Johnson tries to get out of the position.
Steel trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Johnson tries to hold on but Steel pushes him away.
Johnson is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
Steel looking to control but Johnson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

Johnson bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Johnson wants to get up but he can't break Steel's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Greg Johnson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Johnson is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Steel is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well Johnson has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
