PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Reggie Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Radar Black (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Radar Black told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Reggie Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Radar Black! The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith tries to clinch there but Black circles away.
Black shoots in for a double leg but Smith sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Smith drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Black can't do much from the bottom here. Black throwing some weak shots from the bottom that do no damage.
Black wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land. Black tries to get back to half guard but can't. Smith is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Black has escaped the position, nice work there. Black tries to buck Smith off but Smith is having none of it. Black throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land. Smith tries for a kimura but Black is defending well. Smith stands up and beckons Black to his feet.
That's one minute gone in the round. Black drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Smith sneaks out the side door and pushes Black away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape. Smith doesn't manage to clinch there - Black circles away.
Black doesn't succeed with the takedown and Smith counters with a takedown into side control. Black throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Smith tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Smith has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Smith is breathing heavily. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Smith decides to stand up, so the ref orders Black to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Black shoots and misses and Smith counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Smith. Reggie Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Radar Black. Smith has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Black is proving hard to escape from. Black striking off his back but it's not causing Smith any problems. Black isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Smith stacks Black on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Smith! Smith has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Black is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Smith yanks on the arm and Black is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Smith.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Reggie Smith!
