Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kenneth Smith! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, George Ang! The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Dean Styles and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith clinches up against the cage. Smith pulls guard successfully.
Ang chips away with some ground and pound. Smith is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Smith is figuring out what he wants to do next. Ang actively working from the bottom here. Ang tries to roll over but Smith keeps him under control. Both fighters really going for it on the ground here! Ang moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Ang has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Smith can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Smith throws a big right hand that misses. Smith stands up over Ang, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head. Ang working for a triangle but Smith defends it easily.
Ang is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Smith defends well. Ang looks gassed!
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith lands a couple of decent looking shots. Ang keeping moving, preventing Smith from controlling successfully. Ang has momentary wrist control but Smith slips an elbow through the middle. Smith works over Ang with some ground and pound from guard. Smith wants to control from the top but Ang keeps moving. Smith is really struggling to control Ang but he's trying to hold on to the position. Smith passes Ang's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Ang wants to get back to full guard. Smith is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. The fighters are battling for position here. Ang manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Smith throwing strikes from guard but Ang blocks nicely. Smith landing with the ground and pound.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith lands a couple of decent looking shots. Smith connects with a couple of short punches. Smith thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Ang is on top in guard.

Ang throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Smith works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Ang stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Smith swivels though and keeps the full guard. Smith working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ang doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ang manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ang accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smith is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Smith avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Ang drops back looking for a leg! Smith is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Smith manages to kick Ang off! Ang jumps back into Smith's guard. Ang throws and elbow that misses. Smith uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Ang's guard. Nice move by Smith! Smith throws a big right hand that misses. Smith keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Ang's head. Smith passes into half guard. Smith missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Smith is looking to take a break and control but Ang is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Smith scores with a couple of good hammerfists. Smith seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Smith is nestled in close to Ang, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure. Ang is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Smith pulls his head out easily. Ang wants to improve his position but Smith is controlling well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ang manages to get to full guard.

Kenneth Smith dominated that round. That's time! Smith's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Smith lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Smith wants the takedown. Ang is fighting it off but Smith persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Ang's guard against the cage. Smith stands and throws Ang's legs to the side, diving into side control. Smith lands some shots froms side control. No, Ang has escaped the position, nice work there. Smith looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Smith is trying to get an arm triangle but Ang is defending well. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Ang is looking to reverse the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Smith is working Ang over with some ground and pound from side control. Ang is not content to let Smith control the position. Ang tries to improve position but can't. Smith lands a nice forearm strike. Ang is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Smith working the head with strikes. Smith working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Ang on the wrong end of some ground and pound. Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Ang manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smith has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Ang defend it? Smith steps over the head and cranks it - Ang is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Smith!
