7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mauri Pekkarinen! The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Patrick Alders and Paul Aken.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Apila bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Pekkarinen's head. Apila gets the takedown into side control. Pekkarinen taking punishment in the form of punches.

Apila works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Apila throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Apila shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Apila was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Apila cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Pekkarinen is rocked! Pekkarinen is looking to improve his position but Apila isn't that keen on the idea. Pekkarinen is still in real trouble! Can Apila finish him? Apila has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Pekkarinen's face.
Pekkarinen in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Apila cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Apila lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Pekkarinen! Apila sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Pekkarinen and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Jussi Apila! Jussi Apila retains his featherweight title!
