Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Remedios Verzosa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Mikael Soder! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Soder is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Soder tries to close the distance and clinch but Verzosa swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away. Soder wants to clinch. Verzosa shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Soder is trying to defend but Verzosa finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Verzosa is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Soder has managed to free his arm - good work. Soder keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
That's one minute gone in the round. Verzosa looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Verzosa has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. Verzosa is keen to just control but Soder is a slippery customer. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Verzosa in particular looking to stall. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Verzosa lands a nice short elbow. Verzosa tries to pass to full mount but Soder defends it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Soder trying to control but Verzosa postures up.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Verzosa controlling the position easily from mount. Verzosa sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Verzosa misses with a head shot. Verzosa looking to finish with strikes here!

Remedios Verzosa dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Verzosa shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Verzosa not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Verzosa wants to work for an arm triangle but Soder is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Soder wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now. Verzosa throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Verzosa trying to control the position from guard on top but Soder is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Verzosa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Verzosa in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Verzosa with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Soder can do anything to dispel that myth. Soder is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Verzosa dives into side control.
Soder takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better. Verzosa working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Verzosa is in a dominant position here, looking for a kimura. Soder looks calm but he's in trouble here. Verzosa gets his leg over his opponent's head and yanks on the arm. Soder is tapping like a morse code operator on the titanic! SOS! SOS! Verzosa lets go of the hold and Soder can pop his arm back in it's socket.
