Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Hans Gruber (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gustavo Gusmao (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gustavo Gusmao has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Hans Gruber's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Hans Gruber!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Gustavo Gusmao!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Blasius, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gruber takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Gruber feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Gusmao is trying to keep Gruber in close.
Gusmao really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gruber. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gruber slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Gusmao had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Gruber defends it easily.
Gruber passes Gusmao's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Gusmao wants to get back to his feet.
Gruber winds up and cracks Gusmao with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Gusmao wants to get back to full guard.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Gusmao can do anything to dispel that myth.

Gusmao is trying to stand up here but Gruber is controlling him well.
Gusmao is staying active underneath Gruber, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Gruber seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Gruber prevents Gusmao from improving his position.
Gusmao tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Gruber has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Gruber has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gruber cracks Gusmao with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Gusmao is still in real trouble! Can Gruber finish him?
Gruber lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Gusmao seems to have recovered his senses.
Gruber lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Gruber content just to control the position here.

Gruber with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

Gruber jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Gusmao manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Gruber is breathing heavily.
Gusmao is working to avoid the ground and pound but Gruber connects with a decent elbow.
Gusmao takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Gusmao is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Gruber's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Gruber winds up and cracks Gusmao with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Gusmao is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Gruber pulls his head out easily.
Still in half guard, Gruber seems content to control.

Gusmao ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gruber moves away.
Good leg kick by Gusmao there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Gruber misses with a takedown attempt - Gusmao sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Gruber fails with an attempt to clinch.

Gruber feints and as Gusmao raises his hands in defense, Gruber changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gruber postures up and lands a big shot to Gusmao's brow.
Gusmao looking for a sweep. Not yet Gusmao, not yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hans Gruber dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Gusmao tries to close the distance and clinch but Gruber swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Gusmao is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Gusmao can't keep his opponent in guard - Gruber advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Gruber is controlling the pace.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gruber connects with a nice short shot to Gusmao's temple.

Gusmao is not content to let Gruber control the position.
Gusmao looks like he's trying to stand up.
Gusmao has hold of Gruber's hands but Gruber slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Hans Gruber overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gruber wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gusmao keeps working.
Gruber lands strikes from half guard.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Gruber lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Gruber lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Gusmao wants to improve his position but Gruber is controlling well.

Gruber is working for a kimura but Gusmao is defending it quite comfortably.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Gruber lands a nice short elbow.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Gusmao is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Gruber passes to full mount!

Gruber is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Gusmao has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Gruber looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.

Gruber working for a submission but Gusmao is keeping him at bay.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Gusmao tries to reverse the position but Gruber maintains control.
Gruber landing strikes, looking to finish!
Gruber takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Gruber with shots to the head and body - Gusmao looks very uncomfortable down there.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


No joy there for Gusmao, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Gusmao fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Gruber manages to avoid it.
Gruber looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Gruber drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Gusmao missing with a left hand there. Gruber was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Gusmao tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gusmao circles away from the clinch attempt.
Gruber shoots in but no luck this time.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Gruber shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Gruber is looking to stall here but Gusmao recovers full guard.

Gruber prevents Gusmao from getting back to his feet.

Gusmao has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Gruber is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Gusmao.
Gruber is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Gusmao's shoulder. That is not cool.

Gruber has hold of Gusmao's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Gusmao seems comfortable defending it but Gruber has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Gusmao is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Gusmao is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Gruber couldn't care less - he's delighted!
