PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Monte Negro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dirrty Bird (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dirrty Bird is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Monte Negro!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dirrty Bird!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bird shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Negro defends it nicely.
Dirrty Bird seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bird shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Negro as he jumps to the side.
Bird tries to clinch but Negro is having none of it.
Bird shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Negro as he jumps to the side.
Monte Negro has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dirrty Bird.

Negro feints and as Bird raises his hands in defense, Negro changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Negro has gone for a leg lock! Bird slips out almost immediately though and dives into Negro's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Negro is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Bird defends well.
Negro manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Negro working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Negro moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Bird has worked his arm free - good work by Bird!
Bird on the wrong end of some ground and pound.

Negro tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Negro has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
An elbow from Negro crashes against the mat.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Negro thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Negro has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Negro is breathing heavily.
Negro shoots in and drives through. Bird sprawls well.
Bird doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Negro counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Bird is looking to escape.
Negro not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Negro tries to pass to full mount but Bird defends it.
Bird is staying active underneath Negro, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Negro stops Bird from getting back to his feet.
Negro trying to control from half guard but Bird is working away.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Negro closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Bird is not content to let Negro control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Negro has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.

Negro has hold of Bird's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Bird manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Negro trying to control but Bird is having none of it.
Bird's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Monte Negro dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Bird gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Negro counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Negro trying to control but Bird is working from the bottom.
Negro is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Bird is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Negro wants to pass the guard but Bird is keeping the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Negro throwing strikes but missing.
Bird is breathing heavily.
Negro wants to control from the top but Bird keeps moving.

Negro drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Bird manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Negro has Bird in his guard.
Negro working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Bird.
Bird working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Negro's head.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Bird accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Bird drops back looking for a leg! Negro is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Negro manages to kick Bird off! Bird jumps back into Negro's guard.
Bird missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Bird postures up in Negro's guard and throws a big left but Negro blocks it.

Negro is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Bird preventing the sweep.

Negro looking for a guillotine here but Bird defends easily.
Bird trying to control but Negro is working from the bottom.
Negro tries to strike from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Negro trying to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Bird is sitting in close to Negro's body. Negro has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Bird is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Bird is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Negro.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Monte Negro!
