PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Cornelius Lycett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Freddy Chapman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Freddy Chapman will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Cornelius Lycett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Freddy Chapman!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, James Ackerman and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lycett throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Chapman's waist but Chapman gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Lycett off to one side.
A punch combination from Chapman misses.
Chapman looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Lycett fails with a takedown attempt.

Chapman fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Lycett sprawls well initially but Chapman persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Chapman looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Chapman tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Lycett.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chapman prevents Lycett from improving his position.
Chapman seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lycett makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Lycett.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Chapman throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Lycett takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Chapman keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Cornelius Lycett. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lycett closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lycett lands in his opponent's guard.
Lycett throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Lycett stands and steps away. Chapman gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Lycett rushes Chapman and presses him up against the cage.

Lycett is trying to trip Chapman. He has hold of a leg but Chapman is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Lycett persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lycett is breathing heavily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Lycett slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Chapman is not content to let Lycett control the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Chapman tries to escape but Lycett is in control.
Chapman is looking to regain half guard here but Lycett keeps moving and retains side control.
Lycett tries to move into full mount but can't pass Chapman's legs.
Lycett trying to control the action but Chapman is working from the bottom.
Chapman is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Chapman looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Chapman is trying to stand up here but Lycett is controlling him well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Chapman fails with the takedown

and Lycett counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Chapman!
Lycett takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Chapman squirming around on the bottom, looking to escape.
Chapman is bucking up trying to escape but Lycett cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Chapman manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Chapman tries to get to full guard but Lycett has control of the leg.

Lycett is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Chapman defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cornelius Lycett dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Chapman with a lazy takedown attempt

and Lycett counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Lycett wants to control but Chapman is keeping him busy.
Lycett stops Chapman from getting back to his feet.
Lycett performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Lycett looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Chapman with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Lycett is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Chapman sees it coming and defends easily.
Chapman avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Lycett.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Chapman looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Lycett not landing any meaningful shots this time.

That's one minute gone in the round.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A right-left combo lands from Chapman.
Chapman throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Lycett.

Lycett takes the fight into the clinch.
Lycett is trying to drag Chapman to the mat but Chapman just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Chapman has Lycett pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Lycett manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Lycett has Chapman pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Lycett pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Chapman tumbling to the mat - Lycett dives into Chapman's guard.

Chapman looking for a triangle here. Lycett is fighting it but it looks tight! Chapman pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Lycett is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:57 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Freddy Chapman!
