The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gauge misses with a wild combination.
Potter gets in close and instigates a clinch. Gauge tries to land knees in the clinch but Potter avoids the damage to the body. Gauge escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Potter looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Gauge is fending him off so far but Potter persists. Nope, Gauge circles away and we're back to standing. Gauge fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Potter sprawls well initially but Gauge persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Gauge not doing much here.
Gauge lands strikes from half guard. Gauge slips a nice elbow through Potter's hands, connecting with Potter's forehead. Gauge tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Gauge throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Potter is looking for a sweep. Gauge is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Gauge tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Gauge trying to control the action but Potter is working from the bottom.

Gauge sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Potter defending well though.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Potter takes the fight into the clinch. Gauge tries to break the clinch but Potter is controlling the position. Gauge jumps guard.
Gauge keeping moving, preventing Potter from controlling successfully. Potter scoring with some ground and pound. Potter wants to stand but Gauge is controlling his posture from full guard. Potter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Potter throws and elbow that misses. Gauge uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Potter's guard. Nice move by Gauge!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Potter keeping moving, preventing Gauge from controlling successfully. Potter working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Gauge. Gauge in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Gauge stands up from Potter's guard - Gauge perhaps looking for a knockout. Gauge swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Potter throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Ron Potter seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Potter has his takedown stuffed and Gauge moves into the clinch. Gauge has had enough of the clinch but Potter keeps him there for the moment. Potter pulls Gauge into guard.
Gauge decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Potter, up you get! Gauge is breathing heavily. Gauge shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Potter as he avoids it easily.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Potter closes the distance looking to clinch and Gauge counters by clinching up. Gauge escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Gauge closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Gauge not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Gauge is looking to take a break and control but Potter is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Potter trying to control here.
The fighters are battling for position here. Potter manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Potter is working an open guard so Gauge takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Potter ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Potter moves into range and lands a nice leg kick. Potter darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Gauge is not content to let Potter control the position. Potter not landing any meaningful shots this time. Potter is looking to stall here but Gauge recovers full guard. Gauge wants to sweep but no luck. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Potter with a nice head shot there. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Potter fails in his attempt to clinch. Potter looks for a takedown but Gauge sprawls well. Nice takedown defense from Potter. No joy for Gauge on that attempt. Potter fails with the takedown and Gauge counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Gauge works over Potter with some ground and pound from guard. Gauge wants to control from the top but Potter keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gauge with a nice head shot there. Gauge has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Gauge decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Potter, up you get! Gauge tries for a takedown but Potter circles away easily and Potter counters with a takedown into side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gauge is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Potter throws an elbow but Gauge slips to the side and avoids it well. Potter tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Gauge regains half guard, as Potter was trying to land strikes. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Potter trying to control from Gauge's half guard. Gauge has other ideas though and has regained full guard. Gauge keeping moving, preventing Potter from controlling successfully. Potter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Gauge is keeping the position for now.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Gauge has closed the distance and engaged Potter in a clinch.
Potter misses with a short punch on the inside. Potter tries for a takedown but Gauge manages to get underhooks.
Evan Gauge has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ron Potter. Gauge pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gauge fails with an attempt to clinch.
Gauge shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Gauge swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Potter. Potter keeps the fight on the outside. Gauge misses with a double jab.
Gauge throws a head kick that misses. Gauge tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. Gauge gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Gauge is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Potter defends well. Gauge has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Potter off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Potter darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Gauge is trying to stand up here but Potter is controlling him well. Gauge tries to get to full guard but Potter has control of the leg. Potter stops Gauge from getting back to his feet.
Gauge is in trouble now - Potter has advanced to mount! And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
A close second round but Ron Potter will probably get the nod - 10:9. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Potter can do anything to dispel that myth. Gauge prevents Potter from getting back to his feet. Gauge wants to control from the top but Potter keeps moving. Gauge missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Gauge keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Potter's head. Gauge landing some decent shots from guard. Potter really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gauge. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gauge lands a couple of digs. Gauge won't allow Potter to sweep him here. Potter keeping moving, preventing Gauge from controlling successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gauge gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Potter tries for a takedown but Gauge circles away easily and Gauge counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. A good leg kick by Potter. Gauge checks a low kick from Potter. Potter gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Potter wants to stand but Gauge is controlling the position. Gauge thows a big elbow that misses. Gauge working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Potter keeping full guard, as Gauge tries to pass. Potter is looking to stand up but Gauge isn't so interested in that idea. Gauge wants to control from the top but Potter keeps moving. Potter looking for a sweep. Not yet Potter, not yet. Gauge is working Potter over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
