Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tony Mayo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris G!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Alan Glass and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mayo avoids a punch combination nicely.
Mayo lands a jab to G's midsection.
Mayo tries to score a power double leg takedown but G sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Mayo somewhat.

Mayo gets a takedown into half guard.
Mayo is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, G manages to get to full guard.
G has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

G is working an open guard so Mayo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mayo circles away from the clinch attempt.

G tries to keep at a distance but Mayo has taken the fight into the clinch.
Mayo keeps the fight in the clinch, despite G's efforts to push away.
Mayo is looking for a takedown up against the cage. G gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Mayo manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Mayo controls G momentarily but G frees himself.
Mayo working a defensive guard but G manages to pass into side control anyway.
G working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Mayo wants to get back to his feet but G drags him back down.
G wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mayo keeps working.
Mayo is breathing heavily.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
G stalks Mayo and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Mayo's face. Mayo staggers backwards, shaken.

Mayo looking for a takedown here - he's got it.

G has his foot on Mayo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mayo works his way back into a safe position though.
G seems keen to control Mayo's posture.
Mayo looking to sit in guard and control but G gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Mayo trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
G sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Mayo's guard.

G moves nicely into side control.

G decides to stand back up. G steps back and let's Mayo get back to his feet.
G doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Mayo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in G's guard now.
Mayo tries to free his leg and advance position but G is retaining full guard.

G has his foot on Mayo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mayo works his way back into a safe position though.
G not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

G looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

G wants to control from the top but Mayo keeps moving.
G prevents Mayo from getting back to his feet.
G slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as G accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

G decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Mayo shoots in but no luck this time.

Mayo bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
G struggling a bit here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
G is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
G is refusing to be controlled, as Mayo sits in half guard.
G wants to control but Mayo is keeping busy.

G is doing well to control the position and prevent Mayo from advancing to side control.
G keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Mayo prevents G from improving his position.
G wants to control but Mayo is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Mayo passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for G!

G is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Mayo stands up and we're back to a striking position.
G blocks the body kick.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Mayo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
G is desperately trying to improve his position but Mayo has a good base and remains in mount.
G is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Mayo trying to control but he's not successful this time.
G is trying desperately to improve position.

Mayo moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, G has worked his arm free - good work by G!
G can't do much from the bottom here.

Mayo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
G tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Mayo is looking to take a break and control but G is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
G tries to bench press Mayo off him but Mayo keeps the position.

G is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Mayo's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
Mayo is just content to waste time from the top position. G takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
