PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alvin Rocker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Shea (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rocker comes to the cage accompanied by Jay-Z's Empire State of Mind. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Alex Shea was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alvin Rocker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Shea!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Bruno Lombardi and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rocker shoots in for a takedown but Shea shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Shea tries a head kick but it misses.
Rocker looks to throw the jab but Shea is out of range.
Rocker dives in and grabs Shea's left leg, looking for a takedown. Shea pushes down on Rocker's head and hops out.
Shea tries to close the distance and clinch but Rocker swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Shea takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
A right-left combo lands from Rocker.


It looks like Alex Shea has been cut.
Shea moves in looking to clinch but Rocker pushes him off.
Rocker works the jab nicely.
Alvin Rocker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Crunch! Shea slams his shin into Rocker's torso.
Rocker throws a series of punches but Shea moves out of range.
Shea tries to clinch but Rocker is having none of it.
Shea keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Shea misses with the combination.

Rocker clinches up with Shea and pushes him back against the cage.

Shea breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Shea steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Rocker.
Shea has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Shea avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Shea is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Shea is looking to clinch but Rocker is avoiding it.

Shea throws a nice head kick!
Shea keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Shea has closed the distance and engaged Rocker in a clinch.
Rocker avoids a wild elbow strike from Shea.
Shea tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Rocker working hard to break the clinch.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Shea escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Rocker will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Shea counters with a solid body kick.
Rocker misses with a wild body shot.
Rocker lands a two punch combo.


That has opened up Alex Shea's cut even more.
No joy there for Rocker, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Rocker digs a good body shot into Shea's ribs.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rocker works over Shea's head and body with a nice combination.
Rocker throws a body punch but Shea moves out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Rocker.
Shea lands with a thumping leg kick.
Rocker shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Shea but Shea pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Rocker throws a big shot that misses.
Alex Shea is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Rocker digs a good body shot into Shea's ribs.
Rocker rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Shea moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Shea closes the distance and clinches.
Shea lands a nice knee to the body.

A battle for position here, against the cage.
Rocker changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Shea fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Shea is looking to clinch.
Rocker loads up on a big right hand but Shea slips the punch.
Rocker tries to clinch up
and Shea counters with a nice body kick.
Rocker is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Shea.
Rocker uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Shea has time to react.


The cut above Alex Shea's eye is starting to cause him problems now.

Rocker drives through and clinches with Shea against the cage.
Rocker is looking to control Shea's arms but Shea gets an underhook and turns him. Now Rocker has his back to the cage.
Rocker swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Shea misses with a knee to the head.
Shea wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Rocker has him pressed against the cage.
Rocker misses with the head strike.
The referee is keeping an eye on Rocker - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rocker has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Shea avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Shea using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Rocker has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Rocker gets through Shea's defenses to land a nice punch to the side of the head.
Rocker is struggling to control the position.
A nice glancing elbow lands by Shea.
Rocker wants a takedown but no success here.
Rocker is trying to break the clinch but Shea has him pressed against the cage.
Shea looking to throw knees to the head but Rocker is blocking nicely.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Rocker creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Rocker has a couple of punches blocked by Shea.
Rocker is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Shea is keeping busy.
Rocker has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Shea is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Rocker tries to throw a body punch but Shea avoids it by throwing Rocker back against the cage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rocker lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Shea or not.

Rocker misses with a punch on the inside.
Shea throws a knee to the head but misses.
Rocker is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Shea is keeping busy.
Rocker can't seem to implement his control oriented gameplan at the moment. That's no bad thing of course, for those of us who want to see a good fight.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Rocker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

The fight stays on the outside here - Shea looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Rocker stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Shea comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Shea prevents the takedown attempt.

Shea pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Alvin Rocker is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Shea throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Rocker gets the takedown into side control.
The referee asks Rocker politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Rocker prefers to stall for the moment though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rocker trying to control the action but Shea is working from the bottom.
Rocker takes a little break here. Shea wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Rocker thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rocker throws an elbow but Shea slips to the side and avoids it well.

Rocker wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Shea, who protects the arm well.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Shea can do anything to dispel that myth.

Rocker is trying to ground and pound but Shea uses the momentary lack of control by Rocker to regain half guard.
Rocker works his foot free and advances to mount.

Rocker swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Shea is now in Rocker's guard. A big mistake from Rocker there, giving up the dominant position!

Shea is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Rocker has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Shea is looking to defend but Rocker has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Shea! Rocker pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Shea taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:39 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Alvin Rocker!
