PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brock Lesnar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Sav (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lesnar's entrance music is Enter Sandman. A fine choice. Joe Sav is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brock Lesnar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Joe Sav!
The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, Jorge Garcia and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sav tries to clinch but Lesnar is having none of it.

Lesnar closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Sav did well to prevent Lesnar getting side control.
Sav tries to get to full guard but Lesnar has control of the leg.

Sav is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Lesnar pulls his head out easily.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Lesnar wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Sav uses the opportunity to regain full guard.
Sav wants to sweep but no luck.
Sav tries to strike from the bottom.

Sav had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Lesnar is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Sav Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Lesnar's back instead.
Lesnar tries to roll but Sav sticks to his back.
Lesnar is trying to get back to his feet but Sav has full control of the position and if anything, Lesnar has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Sav is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
Sav looks gassed!

Sav has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Lesnar has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Lesnar manages to reverse the position and now he's in Sav's guard. Nice work there by Lesnar.

Lesnar decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sav, up you get!

Lesnar closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lesnar is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.

Lesnar is working for a kimura but Sav is defending it quite comfortably.

Lesnar thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Sav's head.
Sav is trying to stand back up but Lesnar is controlling him
Lesnar looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Sav with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Lesnar seems to be working for a kimura but Sav defends the submission attempt.
Lesnar throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Sav gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Sav looking to stall.
Sav misses with a knee strike.
Lesnar tries to break the clinch but Sav is controlling the position.

Sav gets control of Lesnar's arms and successfully pulls guard. Sav will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Sav escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lesnar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Lesnar passes Sav's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Sav makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Sav.

Sav is looking for a triangle but Lesnar pushes his legs off easily.
Lesnar postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Lesnar got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sav has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Lesnar has managed to get both his arms back between Sav's legs - danger averted.
Lesnar knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sav on the ground.
Lesnar cracks Sav with a solid left hand.
Lesnar keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Sav's head.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Lesnar is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Sav is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Lesnar defends well.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sav utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joe Sav dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Sav misses with a series of wild punches.

Lesnar shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Lesnar working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Sav's head.

Sav is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Lesnar makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Lesnar decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sav, up you get!
Sav throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lesnar's waist but Lesnar gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Sav off to one side.
Sav stuffs the takedown.
Sav shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Lesnar as he avoids it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Sav tries to clinch there but Lesnar circles away.
Brock Lesnar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lesnar throws a leg kick that misses.
Sav wants to clinch.
Sav tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Sav shoots in and drives through. Lesnar sprawls well.
Brock Lesnar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Joe Sav.

Sav shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Lesnar is trying to defend but Sav finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Sav seems to be looking for submissions.

Sav is working for a kimura but Lesnar is defending it quite comfortably.

Lesnar throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Lesnar wants to improve his position but Sav is controlling well.

Sav is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Sav prevents Lesnar from improving his position.

Sav passes to side control.
Lesnar can't do much from the bottom here.
Lesnar is looking to reverse the position.
Lesnar is trying to control Sav's posture but Sav avoids it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Sav doesn't succeed with the takedown

so Lesnar counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Lesnar preventing the sweep.

Lesnar avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Lesnar is sitting in close to Sav's body. Sav has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Lesnar is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Lesnar is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Sav.
