The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jackson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Penn tries to avoid it but Jackson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Penn to the ground. Penn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Penn really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Jackson just misses with a punch to the body.
Jackson gets caught flat footed, as Penn shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Jackson pulls Penn in close to prevent any damage. Penn has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Penn stopping the sweep attempt from Jackson. Penn working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Jackson managing to control the position. Penn won't allow Jackson to sweep him here. Jackson utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Jackson thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Jackson working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Penn.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Penn shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Jackson counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Jackson fails to land with a series of punches.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it! Penn lands a jab-cross combination. Penn gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Penn working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Jackson. Jackson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Penn's guard. Penn is looking for a sweep. Jackson is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Jackson controlling the action here. Penn is staying active underneath Jackson, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Penn is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jackson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Penn is looking to escape. Jackson prevents Penn from improving his position. Penn looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Penn is breathing heavily.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Penn closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Jackson to the mat! Jackson manages to get full guard. Jackson looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Jackson seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Jackson is on top in guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jackson trying to control but Penn is working from the bottom. Penn can't keep his opponent in guard - Jackson advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Penn taking some punishment here, with Jackson in his half guard. Jackson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Penn is not content to let Jackson control the position. Well, if Jackson is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Jackson is trying to control the action in half guard but Penn is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Jackson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Penn with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Penn taking some punishment here, with Jackson in his half guard. Jackson is taking a breather. Penn says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Sage Jackson dominated that round. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!
Jackson tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Penn swivels and escapes. Penn darts in and out, connecting with a jab. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Penn is defended easily by Jackson. Jackson looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Penn keeping moving, preventing Jackson from controlling successfully. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Despite being in the dominant position, Sage Jackson just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Jackson decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn is trying to get back to full guard. Jackson is breathing heavily. Jackson is looking for a kimura but Penn is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jackson to get the leverage. Jackson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Penn's head. Penn trying to control here.
Jackson throwing shots but Penn is blocking nicely. Jackson is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Penn wants to control but Jackson is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Jackson has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Penn! Jackson controlling from the full mount. Sage Jackson has got the better of the ground game so far. Jackson blocks Penn's feeble attempts to strike from the bottom.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Penn throwing hammer fists to the chest of Jackson. What's that going to do exactly? Penn's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up. Jackson sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Jackson with the ground and pound from mount. Jackson with good strikes from the mount here! Jackson controlling the position easily from mount. Penn has left one of his arms exposed and Jackson doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Penn screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
