The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lesnar cracks the inside of Ovronnaz's front leg. Lesnar throws a lazy right hand but Ovronnaz sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Ovronnaz misses with a takedown attempt - Lesnar sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Lesnar connects with a solid leg kick. Lesnar lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Lesnar's corner calls for a 1,2 combination and Lesnar duly obliges. Ovronnaz scores with a jab. Lesnar acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Lesnar bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Ovronnaz's head backwards. Lesnar dips to his left and cracks Ovronnaz with an uppercut! Lesnar misses with a hook. Lesnar bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut. Ovronnaz throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lesnar was covering up waiting for the punch and Ovronnaz finishes the takedown easily into guard. Ovronnaz with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ovronnaz is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact. Lesnar wants to stand and escape but Ovronnaz is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lesnar is looking for a triangle but Ovronnaz pushes his legs off easily.

That's one minute gone in the round. Ovronnaz won't allow Lesnar to get back to his feet. Lesnar had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ovronnaz defends it easily. Lesnar wants to stand but Ovronnaz is controlling the position. Ovronnaz throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Ovronnaz won't allow Lesnar to sweep him here. Lesnar wants to get back to his feet but Ovronnaz is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Lesnar is breathing heavily. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ovronnaz accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Lesnar wants to stand up but Ovronnaz is controlling him.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Ovronnaz displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lesnar throws out the jab. Lesnar bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Ovronnaz's head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Ovronnaz lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Lesnar backs up against the cage.
Ovronnaz bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Nice sprawl there from Lesnar as Ovronnaz shoots in. Lesnar throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
Ovronnaz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lesnar's guard. Ovronnaz landing with the ground and pound. Lesnar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Ovronnaz kicks Lesnar off and gets back to his feet. Brian Lesnar seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ovronnaz displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Lesnar throws out the jab. No joy there for Lesnar, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Ovronnaz uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Lesnar. Ovronnaz looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Ovronnaz shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Lesnar but Lesnar pushes him off and we're back to square one. Brian Lesnar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Yuri Ovronnaz. Ovronnaz gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Lesnar. Ovronnaz throws an overhand right that lands on Lesnar's shoulder, as Lesnar tries to avoid the shot.
That's three minutes gone in the round. The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky. A left and a right from Lesnar both land. Nice combination. Lesnar throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Ovronnaz on the side of the head. Ovronnaz looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. Ovronnaz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. Lesnar wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection. Lesnar misses with a wild combination.
Ovronnaz takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor. Lesnar connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head. Lesnar looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Brian Lesnar is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Ovronnaz takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Left hook, right uppercut from Lesnar. Lesnar lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Ovronnaz fails with the takedown. Lesnar cracks Ovronnaz with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business. A decent looking cross lands there for Lesnar. Lesnar scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one. Lesnar dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Ovronnaz. That did some damage!

Lesnar throws a leg kick which misses Ovronnaz's front leg but catches the back leg as Ovronnaz tries to avoid it. Lesnar tests Ovronnaz's chin there with a solid looking shot. Lesnar scores with a three punch combo!

and Ovronnaz counters with a shoot takedown. Lesnar fights it but they end up in guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Lesnar is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Lesnar throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Ovronnaz loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Ovronnaz lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Brian Lesnar will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Good shot there by Lesnar. Lesnar scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business. Lesnar throws a quick inside leg kick. Ovronnaz has a pretty nasty looking mouse under his right eye. Ovronnaz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lesnar tries to avoid it but Ovronnaz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lesnar to the ground. Lesnar escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Ovronnaz on the wrong end of a kick to the body.

Ovronnaz will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Ovronnaz is breathing heavily. Ovronnaz walks into a jab. Lesnar throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Lesnar connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Lesnar connects with a good right hand that stumbles Ovronnaz. Ovronnaz circles away out of range and recomposes himself. Lesnar works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Ovronnaz with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Lesnar to score with a decent uppercut. Lesnar closes the distance and lands a one-two.
