The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smith checks the leg kick.
Chase throws a head kick but Smith moves out of range.
Smith drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Chase not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Smith sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Chase is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Smith advances position into side control!
Chase seems a little lost for a moment, as Smith dominates the positioning.
Smith is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Chase knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Smith goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Chase is on top in guard.

Chase loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

and Smith counters with a shoot takedown. Chase fights it but they end up in guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Smith accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Smith looking to sit in guard and control but Chase gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Smith has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Chase off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Chase throws a combination that misses
and Smith counters with a nice uppercut.
Smith scores with a sloppy right hand. Chase should have avoided that one.
Chase takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Smith bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Chase throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Smith counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Chase is looking for a sweep. Smith is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Well, if Smith is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Chase is in trouble now - Smith has advanced to mount!

Chase wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Smith.

Smith misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Chase is looking to get to half guard.
Smith scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Chase?
Chase swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Smith thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Smith controlling the pace for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Smith goes for an armbar but Chase turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Chase.

Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Chase is controlling him.
Chase trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Chase with a flurry of punches that miss.
Chase trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Smith manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Heath Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Chase falls off balance throwing a combination
and Smith counters with a single leg into guard. Chase didn't expect that.
Smith is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Smith looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Chase!

Smith is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Chase is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Chase is looking to regain half guard here but Smith keeps moving and retains side control.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Heath Smith is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Heath Smith comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Smith has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
