PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Rich Nixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Rich Nixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Steve Rogers!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Chris Edwards and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rogers clinches with his opponent.

Nixon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Rich Nixon seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nixon keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Nixon throws a hook but Rogers blocks it.

Nixon lands a slapping body shot.
Nixon fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Nixon cracks Rogers with a right hand to the side of the head.
No luck for Rogers with that takedown attempt.
Nixon misses with an uppercut.

Rogers tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Nixon gets back to half guard.
Nixon trying to control but Rogers postures up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Rogers prevents Nixon from improving his position.

Nixon looking for submissions off his back.
Nixon wants to control but Rogers is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Rogers looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Nixon wants to get back to full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
A shot to de liver by Nixon. Beautiful body shot.
Nixon throws a series of punches but Rogers avoids them all with ease.
Nixon tries to bum rush Rogers with a series of wild strikes but Rogers uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Nixon misses with a series of wild punches.
Nixon throws a jab but it's blocked by Rogers.
Rogers walks into a stiff left hand from Nixon.
Rogers takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Rogers wants to clinch.
Nixon shoots and misses
and Rogers counters with a one-two to the body.
Rogers tries to close the distance and clinch but Nixon swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Rogers shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Nixon's guard.

Rogers drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Rogers jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Nixon is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rogers lands a couple of elbows.

Rogers stands and steps away. Nixon gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Nixon lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Rogers shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rogers showed some decent athleticism there.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Rogers is trying to work for a kimura but Nixon is defending well.
Rogers is trying to control the action in half guard but Nixon is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Steve Rogers will probably get the nod.

Nixon closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Rogers wants to get back to his feet.

Rogers looking for submissions off his back.
Nixon is controlling the pace.

Rogers looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Well, if Nixon is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Rogers is refusing to be controlled, as Nixon sits in half guard.
Rogers is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Nixon passes the guard and advances to mount!
Rogers is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Nixon has control of Rogers's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Rogers regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Rogers is looking to improve his position but Nixon isn't that keen on the idea.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Poor strikes thrown by Nixon there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Nixon fails to move to back control.
Rogers is desperately trying to improve his position but Nixon has a good base and remains in mount.
Nixon takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Nixon trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Nixon is really struggling to control Rogers but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Rogers tries to reverse the position but Nixon maintains control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Nixon has isolated one of Rogers's arms. Rogers looking to fight him off but Nixon twists into an armbar. It's tight... Will he tap?? YES, he's tapped! This one is all over!
