PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bas Rotten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter La Fleur (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). La Fleur has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bas Rotten!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Peter La Fleur!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Matheus Silva and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rotten fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
La Fleur tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Rotten swivels and escapes.
Rotten throws out a loose jab but La Fleur uses good head movement to avoid it.
Rotten throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
La Fleur falls off balance throwing a combination
and Rotten counters with a left and a right that stings La Fleur.
La Fleur misses with a wild combination.
Peter La Fleur seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
La Fleur shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Rotten counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
La Fleur looks gassed!
Rotten controlling the pace.
Rotten seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down La Fleur for as long as he can get away with.

Rotten is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Rotten seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Rotten's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Rotten slips a nice elbow through La Fleur's hands, connecting with La Fleur's forehead.
Still in half guard, Rotten seems content to control.
La Fleur on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Rotten thows a huge punch but La Fleur dodges it nicely.
Rotten perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Rotten uses his free foot to push down on La Fleur's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for La Fleur.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Rotten cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
La Fleur is trying to escape the mount.
Rotten has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Rotten controlling the position easily from mount.

Rotten lands a big shot there that rocks La Fleur but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Rotten tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Bas Rotten just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
La Fleur throws a left and a right that both miss
and Rotten counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
La Fleur throws a combination that misses

so Rotten counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Rotten controlling from the top position.
Rotten working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of La Fleur's head.
Rotten sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Rotten passes into half guard.
Rotten perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Rotten works his foot free and advances to mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bas Rotten dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Rotten throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
La Fleur throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Rotten counters with a nice leg kick.
La Fleur blocks the body kick.
Rotten lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but La Fleur circles away quickly and effectively.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Rotten, right into the meat.
Rotten scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Rotten fails with an attempt to clinch.
Bas Rotten is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
La Fleur misses with a combination
and Rotten counters with a two punch combo.
Rotten looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Rotten throws a quick head kick that skims the top of La Fleur's head.

Rotten shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in La Fleur's guard.
Rotten works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Rotten sitting and controlling from the half guard.
La Fleur is breathing heavily.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Rotten connects with a nice short shot to La Fleur's temple.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rotten moves into full mount! La Fleur won't be happy about that!
Rotten takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Rotten lands a nice shot to the head.
Rotten pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
La Fleur is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Rotten content just to control the position here.
Bas Rotten overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Bas Rotten just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Rotten scores with a sloppy right hand. La Fleur should have avoided that one.
No luck for Rotten with that takedown attempt.
La Fleur misses with a double jab
and Rotten counters with a leg kick.
La Fleur misses with an uppercut.
La Fleur misses with a combination
and Rotten counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rotten lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as La Fleur backs up against the cage.
Rotten closes the distance and clinches up with La Fleur, looking for a takedown. Rotten pushes La Fleur against the cage but La Fleur circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Rotten shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rotten showed some decent athleticism there.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Rotten in particular looking to stall.

Rotten stands up from half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bas Rotten dominated that second round.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!


Rotten cracks La Fleur with a good shot that sees him stumbling back into the cage.

La Fleur takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
La Fleur wants to stand but Rotten is controlling the position.
Rotten slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Bas Rotten just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Rotten throws a series of punches but La Fleur avoids them all with ease.
La Fleur misses with a double jab

and Rotten counters with a single leg into guard. La Fleur didn't expect that.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

La Fleur takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Rotten is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that La Fleur can do to turn this around?

Rotten closes the distance and clinches up with La Fleur, looking for a takedown. Rotten pushes La Fleur against the cage but La Fleur circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

and Rotten counters with a nice double leg into side control. La Fleur won't be happy with that.
Rotten is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down La Fleur's shoulder. That is not cool.
Rotten lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear La Fleur down.
Bas Rotten is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bas Rotten showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Rotten has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
