PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Broski Ginov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kenji Kawasaki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Broski Ginov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kenji Kawasaki!
The judges for this bout are Shirou Masuda, Shigeki Fujiwara and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kawasaki fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ginov avoids it really well and circles away.
Kawasaki misses with an uppercut. Ginov saw that one coming.

Ginov decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Ginov trying to advance position but Kawasaki counters by regaining guard.

Kawasaki pushes Ginov off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Ginov with a poor takedown

and Kawasaki counters with a shoot takedown. Ginov fights it but they end up in guard.

Kawasaki is looking to advance position but Ginov has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Ginov can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Kawasaki is looking to escape.
Kawasaki wants to try and get back to his feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ginov throws some wild stikes that Kawasaki manages to avoid easily.

Ginov is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Kawasaki throws a series of punches but Ginov avoids them all with ease.
Kawasaki is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Ginov.
Kenji Kawasaki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kawasaki throws a leg kick that misses.
Ginov throws a combination that misses

and Kawasaki counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ginov won't be happy with that.

Kawasaki stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Ginov shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Kawasaki counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kawasaki.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Ginov looking to hit a scissor sweep but Kawasaki is one step ahead there.
Ginov is breathing heavily.
Kawasaki lands a couple of digs.
Kawasaki really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ginov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Ginov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kawasakiis looking to pass into half guard but Ginov pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Ginov is in guard.
Kawasaki throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
Ginov wants to pass the guard but Kawasaki is keeping the position.
Kawasaki wants to stand and escape but Ginov is having none of it.
Kawasaki keeping moving, preventing Ginov from controlling successfully.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Kawasaki pushes Ginov off and gets back to his feet.
Ginov tries to clinch up.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Ginov checks a leg kick.
Kawasaki misses with a few strikes there.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kawasaki throws the kick towards the body but Ginov avoids it.
Kawasaki throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kenji Kawasaki dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Kawasaki instigates a clinch.
Kawasaki is trying to break free.
Kawasaki scores with a shot to the side of Ginov's head.

Kawasaki is fighting off a takedown attempt but Ginov is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Kawasaki to the mat. Kawasaki regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Ginov looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Ginov passes Kawasaki's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Ginov wants to control but Kawasaki is keeping him busy.
Kawasaki is trying to stand back up but Ginov is controlling him
Kawasaki is not content to let Ginov control the position.
Kawasaki is concentrating on defense, preventing Ginov from advancing position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ginov throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Kawasaki trying to control from the bottom.
Ginov looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Kawasaki won't allow Ginov to pass to mount.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Kawasaki doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Ginov counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ginov.
Kenji Kawasaki has got the better of the ground game so far.

Ginov postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Kawasaki is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Ginov, into his guard.
Ginov is trying to keep Kawasaki in close.
Ginov really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ginov has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Kawasaki has passed into side control.
Ginov prevents Kawasaki from improving position.

Kawasaki wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Ginov, who protects the arm well.
Ginov manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Kawasaki is looking for a kimura here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Kawasaki throws a sloppy strike and Ginov has hooked up an armbar on the loose arm! He's turned and extended fully! Kawasaki is forced to tap! Great BJJ from Ginov!
