PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Ricardo Ramone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Red Fury (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ramone comes to the cage accompanied by Don't fear the reaper by Blue Oyster Cult. Red Fury told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Ricardo Ramone!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Red Fury!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Alexandre Firmino and Seu Braga.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ramone connects with a single shot there.
Ramone fails in his attempt to clinch.

Ramone drives through and clinches with Fury against the cage.
Ramone pressing his opponent against the cage.

Ramone breaks the clinch.

Ramone shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Ramone is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Fury is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Ramone scores with a couple of nice shots.

Fury looks like he's trying to stand up.
Ramone thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Fury's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ramone is looking to advance position but Fury won't allow it.
Ramone trying to control the action but Fury is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fury wants to control but Ramone is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Ramone is keen to just control but Fury is a slippery customer.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Ramone tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
A kick lands to the mid section there for Ramone.
Fury looks gassed!

Ramone fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Fury sprawls well initially but Ramone persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Ramone is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Ramone thows a huge punch but Fury dodges it nicely.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Ramone's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Fury is refusing to be controlled, as Ramone sits in half guard.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Ricardo Ramone just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.

Ramone shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Ramone was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Fury gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Ramone to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Ramone trying to control but Fury is working from the bottom.
Ramone pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fury is keeping the position for now.
Ramone wants to control from the top but Fury keeps moving.

Ramone gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Ramone swinging wilding here.
Ricardo Ramone seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Crunch! Fury slams his shin into Ramone's torso.
Fury throws a head kick but Ramone moves out of range.
Fury is breathing heavily.
Ramone takes a swing at Fury's ribcage but misses.
Fury lands a head kick!
Ricardo Ramone is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Ramone shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Fury manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Ramone wants to control from the top but Fury keeps moving.
Fury looking to control but Ramone passes into half guard.
Ramone thows a huge punch but Fury dodges it nicely.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Ramone rushes Fury and presses him up against the cage.
Fury wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Fury has had enough of the clinch but Ramone keeps him there for the moment.
Fury throws a punch but it's blocked by Ramone.

Ramone has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Fury is trying to keep an underhook but Ramone manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Ramone seems to be looking for submissions.
Fury is trying to stand up here but Ramone is controlling him well.
Ramone is taking a breather. Fury says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

and Fury counters with a big head kick but Ramone shrugs it off.

Ramone shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Ramone slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Ramone working the strikes but Fury uses the opportunity to regain half guard.

Fury takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Well, if Ramone is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Ramone tries to pass to full mount but Fury defends it.

Ramone seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fury does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Ramone seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Ramone is trying to work for a kimura but Fury is defending well.
Fury moves into full guard.
Ramone throws a big right hand that misses.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ramone trying to control but Fury is working from the bottom.
Fury manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Ramone manages to get himself to full guard.
Ramone is looking to sweep but instead, Fury has passed into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
The fighters are battling for position here. Ramone manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Ricardo Ramone.
Well Ramone has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
