PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kevin Kelp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dylan Preston (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kevin Kelp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Dylan Preston!
The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Anthony Taglia and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Preston changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kelp tries to avoid it but Preston manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kelp to the ground. Kelp escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kelp closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Preston to the mat! Preston manages to get full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kelp accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kelp throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Preston works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Kelp drops back looking for a leg! Preston is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Preston manages to kick Kelp off! Kelp jumps back into Preston's guard.
Kelp stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Preston swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kelp lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Kelp prevents Preston from getting back to his feet.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Preston can do anything to dispel that myth.
Preston looks gassed!
Kelp stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Preston swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kelp wants to control from the top but Preston keeps moving.

That's one minute gone in the round.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kelp throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Kelp scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Kelp throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kelp throws a jab when Preston was well out of range.

Kelp throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Preston was covering up waiting for the punch and Kelp finishes the takedown easily into guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kelp working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Preston's head.
Kelp postures up and lands a big shot to Preston's brow.
Kelp throws a big right hand that misses.

Kelp trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Kelp lands a couple of elbows.
Kelp postures up and lands a big shot to Preston's brow.
Kelp with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Preston is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kelp lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Kelp scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Kelp content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Preston has momentary wrist control but Kelp slips an elbow through the middle.

Kelp trying to control the position from guard on top but Preston is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Kelp chips away with some ground and pound.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Kelp sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Preston's guard.
Kelp lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Kelp lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

Kelp is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Preston is just riding it out for now. Kelp eventually gives up the hold.
Preston is staying active underneath Kelp, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kevin Kelp dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Kelp shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Kelp was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Kelp lands with some strikes.
Kelp scoring with strikes but Preston is staying in there.
Kelp scoring with some good ground and pound from mount here. Will he manage to finish Preston?

Kelp is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Preston can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Kelp looking to control but Preston is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Kelp lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Preston is breathing heavily.
Kelp cracks Preston with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Kelp looking to finish Preston with some ground and pound. This is bad for Preston!

Preston is in all sorts of trouble here.

Kelp is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Kevin Kelp overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Preston is trying to escape the mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Preston defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Kelp.
Preston is working to get back to half guard.

Preston takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

Kelp throws some shoulder strikes here and then postures up. Oh, he's gone for an armbar! Preston has his hands clasped together but Kelp breaks the hold and Preston is forced to tap! This one is aaaaaaaaaaall over! That was lightning fast by Kelp!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Kevin Kelp!
