Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Stan Hayes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Niko Reynolds (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Stan Hayes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Niko Reynolds! The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Alan Glass and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hayes doesn't manage to clinch there - Reynolds circles away.
Hayes is looking to clinch. Reynolds scores with a sloppy right hand. Hayes should have avoided that one. Hayes could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely. Hayes lands a nice leg kick that just misses Reynolds's sensitive parts. Reynolds scores with a jab. Reynolds gets in close and instigates a clinch. Reynolds looking for a takedown. Reynolds scores with a nice hook to the head. Hayes drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Reynolds works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. This has been an exciting period of action! Hayes looking to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Reynolds is looking to work some ground and pound but Hayes has wrist control. Reynolds wants to control from the top but Hayes keeps moving. Hayes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hayes tries to land a sweep but no joy. Hayes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Hayes is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Hayes wants to sweep but no luck.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Hayes on the wrong end of a nice hook. Hayes takes a body punch but keeps moving. Hayes misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Hayes tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Reynolds counters with a nice body shot. Hayes is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Reynolds closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Reynolds lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Hayes backwards. A short right from Reynolds on the inside. Reynolds's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Reynolds lands a left and a right that send Hayes crashing to the mat, dazed. Reynolds thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
It looks like Stan Hayes has been cut. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Reynolds gets a clinch. Reynolds lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Hayes is looking to improve his position.
Reynolds looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Reynolds not landing any meaningful shots this time. Hayes is looking to improve his position.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reynolds controlling the action here. Reynolds slips a nice elbow through Hayes's hands, connecting with Hayes's forehead. Reynolds controlling the pace. Hayes with the active half guard here but Reynolds passes nicely into side control. The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Hayes can't do much from the bottom here.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Reynolds lands an elbow. Hayes is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Reynolds cracks Hayes with an elbow. That is naaassty. Reynolds is working Hayes over with some ground and pound from side control. Hayes is trying to get back to half guard. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Hayes being controlled for a moment. Reynolds throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Niko Reynolds dominated that round. The cut man is working on Stan Hayes's cut. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Hayes misses with a takedown so Reynolds counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Reynolds must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Reynolds throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hayes works some decent striking defense from the bottom. Hayes keeping full guard, as Reynolds tries to pass. Reynolds pushing down on Hayes's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Hayes missing with punches from the bottom.
Hayes might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Hayes keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Reynolds has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Hayes won't allow Reynolds to pass to mount.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hayes is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Reynolds's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Reynolds's back! Reynolds wants to escape the position.
Reynolds avoids the strikes from Hayes. Hayes is persistently looking for the submission but Reynolds is defending it well.
Hayes is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Reynolds has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here. Reynolds turns into Hayes and is now in his guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Hayes has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Reynolds can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Reynolds with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Reynolds throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Reynolds controls from within his opponent's guard. Reynolds wants to control from the top but Hayes keeps moving.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reynolds postures up.
Hayes is looking to stand back up but Reynolds counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Hayes. Hayes actively working from the bottom here. Reynolds has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Reynolds working the ground and pound effectively.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The referee warns Hayes that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Reynolds is in the full mount, landing strikes. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Reynolds is landing with some decent strikes but Hayes is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Stan Hayes's cut is getting worse. Hayes tries to reverse the position but Reynolds maintains control. Niko Reynolds has got the better of the ground game so far. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Reynolds landing strikes, looking to finish! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Oooooh, big shot lands for Reynolds! Hayes is hurt baaadly! Reynolds is firing away with more strikes - Hayes is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!
