Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andy S (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marco Vera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Marco Vera!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Donatello Bradman and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

S throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Vera was covering up waiting for the punch and S finishes the takedown easily into guard.
S controlling from the top position.
S wants to control from the top but Vera keeps moving.
S slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Vera looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but S puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
S with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
S trying to control from Vera's half guard. Vera has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
S would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Vera keeping moving, preventing S from controlling successfully.
S pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Vera is keeping the position for now.
Vera is trying to control the position but S postures up.
S looking to pass the guard.

S won't allow Vera to sweep him here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
S fails with a takedown attempt.
S shoots in but no luck this time.

Vera scores a takedown into full mount!
S regains half guard.
Vera is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Vera looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
I looks like Vera might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Vera trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

S is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Vera defends well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
S is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

That's time! S's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.



Vera is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in S's half guard.

Vera looks to land a strike but S avoids it nicely and regains full guard.

S is refusing to be controlled, as Vera sits in half guard.
Vera looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks S with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Vera is thwarting S's attempts to control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vera perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Vera wants to lay and pray for a moment but S keeps working.
Ground and pound from Vera.
S is staying active underneath Vera, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Vera is thwarting S's attempts to control the position.

Vera really doesn't want to stay on the ground with S. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

and Vera counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for S!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Vera wants to control the action but instead S gets a body lock and reverses into Vera's guard! Nice work!
Vera has S pulled in close to control his posture.

S stands up and waves to Vera to follow him.
S shoots and misses

and Vera counters with a nice double leg into guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
S is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Vera throwing strikes from guard but S blocks nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Marco Vera showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


S wants to clinch but Vera slips to the side

and Vera counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Vera.

S throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.

Vera stands over his opponent and dives in with a flying punch! S throws up his legs and catches Vera in a triangle! Oh this looks tight! Vera tries to escape but he's forced to tap! Wow, fantastic work there by S! That came out of nowhere!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Andy S!
