PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Clope Jonesy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyquan Durden (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Clope Jonesy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Tyquan Durden!
The judges for this bout are Cecil Peabody, Stewart Dunkirk and Chris Downing.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Jonesy moves into range and clinches up with Durden.
Jonesy lands a damaging elbow.


It looks like Tyquan Durden has been cut.
Durden wants to break free but Jonesy has control.
Jonesy lands a left hand.
Durden tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Jonesy avoids it.
Durden wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Jonesy has him pressed against the cage.
Jonesy fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Jonesy keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Durden's efforts to push away.
Jonesy lands an elbow inside.
Durden is trying to maintain a safe position but Jonesy gets an underhook and turns Durden into the cage.
Nice elbow from Jonesy.
Durden tries a knee to the head but Jonesy blocks it.
Jonesy has had enough of the clinch but Durden keeps him there for the moment.

Durden breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Jonesy gets a clinch.
Durden has Jonesy pressed against the cage.
Jonesy lands a knee to the body.
A bit of stalling here from Jonesy.
Durden is pressed up against the cage. Jonesy has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Durden down to the mat. Durden avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Jonesy throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


That has opened up Tyquan Durden's cut even more.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Jonesy, as that shot connected.
Nice takedown defense from Durden. No joy for Jonesy on that attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Clope Jonesy. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Durden.

Jonesy looks to land a combination. Durden sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Jonesy steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Durden.
Durden avoids a kick to the body.
Jonesy checks a low kick from Durden.
Clope Jonesy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jonesy throws the kick towards the body but Durden avoids it.

Durden scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Jonesy manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Jonesy is controlling the pace.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jonesy is trying to control the action in half guard but Durden is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Durden is looking to escape.
Durden regains full guard. Nicely done.
Durden wants to sweep here but Jonesy controlling him for the moment.
Jonesy has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Jonesy wants to pass the guard but Durden is keeping the position.

Durden wriggles free and stands up.
Jonesy throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Jonesy goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.

Durden takes an elbow to the forehead.


The cut above Tyquan Durden's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Durden is pushing Jonesy up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Jonesy lands a right hand.
Nice elbow from Jonesy.
Jonesy takes a shot to the head.
Jonesy wants to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Durden is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Durden pulls guard.
Jonesy trying to control but Durden is working from the bottom.
Durden is controlling Jonesy's posture.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jonesy trying to control the position from guard on top but Durden is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Clope Jonesy dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Tyquan Durden's cut.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Durden avoids the body shot from Jonesy.
Durden ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Durden lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

Durden shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Durden connects with a nice short shot to Jonesy's temple.
Durden is pressing down on Jonesy's thigh, looking to free his foot. Jonesy is holding on for now.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jonesy wants to improve his position but Durden is controlling well.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Durden looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Durden throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Jonesy avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Durden.
Jonesy wants to control but Durden is keeping busy.

Jonesy is staying active underneath Durden, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Jonesy takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.

Jonesy takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Jonesy takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Jonesy is looking to reverse the position.

Durden decides to stand back up.
Durden throws a combination that misses
and Jonesy makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Durden really felt that one!
Jonesy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

Jonesy lands with a slapping head kick.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Durden. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Clope Jonesy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
A chopping leg kick lands by Durden.
Durden tries to clinch there but Jonesy circles away.

and Durden counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Jonesy is lucky that one didn't land flush.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Tyquan Durden showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Durden tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jonesy swivels and escapes.
Durden has a takedown stuffed.
Durden throws a head kick but Jonesy moves out of range.

Jonesy has closed the distance and engaged Durden in a clinch.
A left hand lands to the body for Jonesy.
Durden takes an elbow to the temple.

Jonesy tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Durden counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Jonesy's guard now.

Jonesy looking to hit a scissor sweep but Durden is one step ahead there.
Durden has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Jonesy has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Durden can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Durden breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Durden shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Jonesy wants to get back to full guard.
Durden lands strikes from half guard.
Durden content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Jonesy is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Durden's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Durden's back!

Jonesy wants to control but Durden manages to buck him off and is now in Jonesy's guard! Nice work there by Durden!

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Clope Jonesy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tyquan Durden.
Jonesy throws a right and a left that Durden avoids nicely.
A punch combination from Durden misses.

Durden throws a series of punches but Jonesy avoids them all with ease.
Jonesy tries to clinch but Durden is having none of it.

Durden takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Jonesy throws an overhand right that lands on Durden's shoulder, as Durden tries to avoid the shot.

And that's the end of the fight!
Tyquan Durden comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Durden has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
