PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between James Young (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Colt Cannon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Young kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Dont Sweat The Technique. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Young!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Colt Cannon!
The judges for this bout are Dillan Fox, Ian Loll and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cannon has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Cannon shoots in and drives through. Young sprawls well.
Cannon misses with a combination
and Young counters with a left to the body.
Young moves out of range as Cannon throws a body kick.
Young will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Young throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cannon was covering up waiting for the punch and Young finishes the takedown easily into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Young missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Cannon wants to stand and escape but Young is having none of it.
Cannon keeping moving, preventing Young from controlling successfully.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Young's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Young prevents Cannon from getting back to his feet.
Young has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Young throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cannon works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Young stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cannon swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Cannon.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Cannon looks gassed!
Young scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Cannon fails in his attempt to clinch.
Cannon tries to close the distance and clinch but Young swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Young drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Young passes Cannon's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Young keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

Young is working for a kimura but Cannon is defending it quite comfortably.
Cannon is looking to escape.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Young passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Cannon!
Cannon wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Young connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Young pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Cannon wants to control but Young is having none of it.
Young connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Young breaks from Cannon's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Young lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Cannon hang on?

Cannon taking shots to the head.

Young jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Cannon manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Cannon is not content to let Young control the position.
Cannon is pushing Young's head away, looking to escape. Young manages to hold on to the position though.
Cannon is looking to regain half guard here but Young keeps moving and retains side control.
Cannon wants to control but Young postures up.
Young prevents Cannon from escaping the position.
Young will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Young controls the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Cannon is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Young has just dragged him back down to the mat.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Young shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Young showed some decent athleticism there.
Young content to control rather than advance.
Cannon wants to get back to his feet.
Young passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Cannon!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Cannon wants to get back to his feet.

Young is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Cannon is trying to control but can't.

Young seems to be looking for submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cannon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Young is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Cannon has managed to free his arm - good work.
Young is thwarting Cannon's attempts to control the position.

Cannon has taken the fight to the clinch.
Young tries to stall but Cannon uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Young has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Cannon drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Young gets the underhooks and prevents it.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Cannon digs a right hand underneath Young's ribcage. Young let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Cannon lands a left hand that snaps the head of Young backwards.
Cannon tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Young smiles and moves away.
James Young has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Colt Cannon.
Cannon is looking to land body kicks.
Cannon looks to land a combination but Young avoids it well.
Young really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Young throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Cannon misses with a few strikes there.
Cannon looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Cannon misses with a head kick.
Cannon shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Young sprawls well. Young wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Cannon gets slowly back to his feet.
Young rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cannon moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Young lands with an uppercut that bounces Cannon off the cage and back into rage.
Young misses with a double jab
and Cannon counters with a one-two to the body.
Cannon tries to clinch but Young moves out of range.
Cannon fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
A left and a right from Young both land. Nice combination.
James Young is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Young throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Young slips a jab and a cross from Cannon.

Cannon fails with an attempt to clinch.

Young scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Young is looking to take a break and control but Cannon is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Cannon is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Young asserts his dominance and retains side control.
The strikes coming from Young are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Young thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Cannon is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

That's time! Young's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Cannon doesn't manage to clinch there - Young circles away.

and Young counters with a three punch combo that has Cannon backing up. Cannon nods at Young to acknowledge the strikes.
Young shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cannon pinned against the cage. Cannon gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Cannon fails in his attempt to clinch.
Cannon shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Young but Young pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Cannon swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A slapping leg kick lands for Young.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Young. Cannon shrugs it off though.

Cannon gets caught flat footed, as Young shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Young is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Cannon can do to turn this around?
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Cannon is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Young dives into side control.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Cannon wants to get back to his feet.

Young changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Cannon looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

James Young showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Young, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
