PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between John Howard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jim McKreedy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Howard comes to the cage accompanied by Can't Touch This. McKreedy is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Millions of Peaches. Jim McKreedy acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, John Howard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jim McKreedy!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McKreedy gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Howard looking for a takedown.
Howard takes a knee to the side of the body.
Howard is trying to force a seperation but McKreedy has the dominant position.
Howard is working for takedown but McKreedy is calmly controlling the position for now.
Howard is looking to break free of the clinch but McKreedy has double underhooks.

McKreedy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

McKreedy clinches with his opponent.
Howard takes an elbow to the temple.
McKreedy unloads a knee to the mid-section.

McKreedy breaks from the clinch.

McKreedy shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McKreedy trying to control but Howard is working from the bottom.

McKreedy's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Howard manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. McKreedy manages to get himself to full guard.
Howard wants to control from the top but McKreedy keeps moving.
Howard stops McKreedy from standing up.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Howard tries to free his leg and advance position but McKreedy is retaining full guard.

McKreedy trying to control but Howard postures up.

Howard is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so McKreedy is just riding it out for now. Howard eventually gives up the hold.
McKreedy controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

McKreedy is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Howard is keen to just control but McKreedy is a slippery customer.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Howard is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and McKreedy defends it well.

McKreedy looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Howard seems to be working for a kimura but McKreedy defends the submission attempt.
McKreedy gets full guard.
Howard stops McKreedy from standing up.
Howard seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Howard is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
McKreedy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Howard. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Howard trying to control but McKreedy is working from the bottom.

Howard is sneakily working for an arm triangle but McKreedy sees it coming and defends easily.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



McKreedy has closed the distance and engaged Howard in a clinch.
McKreedy tries a knee to the head but Howard blocks it.
Howard avoiding damage as McKreedy throws knees to the body.
McKreedy manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Howard trying to control the position but instead, McKreedy has worked for underhooks and has pushed Howard into the cage.

McKreedy's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Nice defenses there by McKreedy.
Howard scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

McKreedy shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Howard's guard.
Howard is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

McKreedy is breathing heavily.

Howard is looking to stand up but McKreedy isn't so interested in that idea.
McKreedy trying to control but Howard is working from the bottom.
Howard bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in McKreedy's guard.
Howard throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as McKreedy works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
McKreedy is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Howard trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Howard slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
McKreedy wants to control but Howard postures up.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Howard has hold of McKreedy's arm. He's looking for a kimura. McKreedy seems comfortable defending it but Howard has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! McKreedy is real pain and he's forced to tap out! McKreedy is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Howard couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:06 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). John Howard!
