PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Heppi Keppi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ron Harris (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Heppi Keppi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Ron Harris!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Tarja Halkonen and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Harris misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Keppi with a poor takedown
enabling Harris to counter with a crisp jab.

Keppi closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Harris is looking for a sweep. Keppi is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Keppi seems to be looking for submissions.

Keppi is working for a kimura but Harris is defending it quite comfortably.
Keppi missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Keppi is trying to work for a kimura but Harris is defending well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Keppi tries to pass the half guard into mount. Harris knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Keppi shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Harris manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Keppi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Harris on the ground.
Keppi working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Harris looking to hit a scissor sweep but Keppi is one step ahead there.
Harris wants to stand but Keppi is controlling the position.
Keppi might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Keppi tries to free his leg and advance position but Harris is retaining full guard.
Keppi is breathing heavily.

Keppi scoring with punches to the head and body.
Keppi looking to sit in guard and control but Harris gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Harris wants to control from the top but Keppi keeps moving.

Harris drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Harris jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Harris drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Keppi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Harris has Keppi in his guard.
Keppi looking to sit in guard and control but Harris gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Harris slips nicely into half guard.
Keppi is staying active underneath Harris, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Keppi is looking to control Harris's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Keppi avoid being mounted?
Keppi tries to kick Harris off but Harris keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Harris working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Harris wants to take a breather but Keppi is having none of it.
Harris stops Keppi from getting back to his feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Harris fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Harris will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Heppi Keppi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Keppi shoots and misses

and Harris counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Keppi on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.

Keppi tries to get to full guard but Harris has control of the leg.

Harris seems to be looking for submissions.
Harris seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Keppi does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Keppi looks like he's trying to stand up.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Keppi has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
Harris with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Keppi to score with a decent uppercut.
Harris misses with a takedown

and Keppi counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Keppi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Harris is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Harris has escaped and now he's on top!
Keppi looking for a sweep. Not yet Keppi, not yet.

Harris is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Harris trying to control but Keppi is working from the bottom.

Keppi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Harris seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Keppi keeping moving, preventing Harris from controlling successfully.
Keppi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Keppi looking for a submission but Harris manages to get full guard, putting an end to that submission attempt.
Keppi wanted to stand there but Harris had control of the position.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Harris is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
Keppi changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Harris fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Keppi wants to clinch but Harris slips to the side

and Harris counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Keppi trying to hold on to Harris's head to control him but Harris postures up.
Harris perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Keppi is staying active underneath Harris, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Keppi wants to control but Harris is keeping busy.
Harris throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Harris is trying for a kimura here. Keppi looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Harris wins by kimura!
