PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Fu Manchu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julian Steel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Steel has chosen Lay Low - Snoop Dogg as his entrance music. The key to victory for Fu Manchu has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fu Manchu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Julian Steel!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Manchu tries to clinch up but Steel circles away and keeps his distance.
Manchu fails with an attempt to clinch.
Manchu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Steel shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Manchu defends it nicely.
Manchu misses with a few strikes there.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Steel.
Steel fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Fu Manchu has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Julian Steel.
Manchu throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Manchu throws a jab but it's blocked by Steel.
Manchu throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


It looks like Julian Steel has been cut.
Manchu looks to land a left hand but Steel moved out of range nicely.
Steel shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Manchu but Manchu pushes him off and we're back to square one.
No luck for Steel with that takedown attempt.

Manchu throws a jab but it's blocked by Steel.
Manchu throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Manchu throws a sloppy head kick and Steel moves out of range easily.
Manchu connects with a solid leg kick.

Steel feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Manchu wants to stand but Steel is controlling the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Steel is in close to Manchu's body, working some short punches and elbows.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Steel shoots in and drives through. Manchu sprawls well.

Steel keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Manchu's head.

Manchu scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Manchu lands with a kick to the temple. Steel shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Steel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Manchu wriggles free and stands up.
Steel walks forward, straight into a front kick from Manchu.

A head kick misses from Manchu.
Manchu scores with a head kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Manchu throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Steel shoots in but Manchu avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Steel shoots in for a takedown but Manchu shows good takedown defense.
Manchu is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Steel.
Steel dives in and grabs Manchu's left leg, looking for a takedown. Manchu pushes down on Steel's head and hops out.
Manchu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Manchu throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Manchu throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Steel fails to land the takedown.

Steel shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Steel showed some decent athleticism there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Fu Manchu dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Julian Steel's cut.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Manchu dodges the ground and pound from Steel.

Manchu pushes Steel off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Manchu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Fu Manchu is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Manchu gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Steel to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Steel loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Julian Steel showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


A telegraphed takedown attempt from Steel is defended easily by Manchu.
Manchu throws the kick towards the body but Steel avoids it.
Manchu stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Manchu wants it to stay on the feet.
Manchu tries to land a front kick but Steel steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Steel fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Manchu sprawls well initially but Steel persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Steel thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Manchu's head.
Steel misses with a head shot. Manchu uses the momentum to regain guard.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Manchu throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Manchu throws a push kick but Steel slaps the foot to one side.
Manchu tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Manchu is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Steel.

Steel throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Manchu was covering up waiting for the punch and Steel finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Manchu on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Manchu tries to get out of the position.
Manchu is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Steel is controlling him.
Steel postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Manchu will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Manchu wants to stand but Steel is controlling the position.
Manchu utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Steel in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Julian Steel comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Steel has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
